Project POWER AmeriCorps

AmeriCorps Asheville, NC

Project POWER AmeriCorps is dedicated to decreasing food insecurity and providing quality education to children, families and individual adults across Western North Carolina through two focus areas; Healthy Futures and Education. Academic Enrichment Specialist members serve the social, emotional and academic needs of students by facilitating and supporting high-quality educational programming through Children First Communities in Schools and with community partners like the Jewish Community Center, Asheville City Schools Foundation and Verner Early Learning Center. Community Resource Specialist members focus on Food Insecurity and Capacity Building through community partners like Manna Food Bank, Pisgah Legal services, The Town of Woodfin and Bounty & Soul Food bank. PPAC members serve Monday – Friday at one of PPAC’s community partners. The PPAC team meets bi-weekly on Friday mornings. This is a time set aside for professional development, AmeriCorps updates and reminders, plan for upcoming National Service Days, fellowship with fellow teammates, take inspiring local tours like the Poverty Walk and to serve within our community. PPAC takes members to two conferences sponsored by the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism each service year and holds a mid-year retreat for the team. PPAC members gain valuable skills and experience in areas such as leadership, communication, project management and teamwork. A year of service with Project POWER AmeriCorps is an invaluable experience that provides the professional and personal skills needed for whatever professional experience is in your future.
