Description

Rex is a private, not-for-profit hospital affiliated with the UNC Health Care System. The hospital consists of 660 beds including a heart center, family birth center, cancer center, convalescent care center, adult care center, and wellness center. The main campus has approximately 40 anesthetizing sites including 24 main operating rooms, 6 procedure rooms, 3 OB suites, 6 procedure rooms and a variety of out of department locations (EP, TAVRs, Hybrid MRI).

Keith Tomlin – Chief CRNA

Prior to joining NAPA, Kevin M. Smith worked for American Anesthesiology as the Vice President of Advanced Practice Anesthesia, where he was responsible for leadership development, market strategy, and operations management. He received his BSN from the University of Memphis and his MSN from Arkansas State University. Smith is currently working on an MBA from Auburn University. His professional affiliations include the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the Tennessee Association of Nurse Anesthetists. When not at work, he enjoys hiking, playing music, and cooking.

Team Highlights

The Anesthesia Department is composed of approximately 30 anesthesiologists, 70 CRNAs and has an affiliation with the Raleigh School of Nurse Anesthesia. We practice team anesthesia in a collegial atmosphere that allows us to effectively manage our large and diverse patient population.

Our anesthesiologists and CRNAs work in an anesthesia care team approach. Our care team model means that we focus on giving everyone a voice, while supporting, respecting, and helping them to deliver care excellence.

  • Pre-anesthesia assessment
  • Obtains and/or verifies patient consent
  • Discuss anesthetic options and risks with the patient
  • Induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia
  • Monitoring of the patient's physiological condition
  • Performance of clinical intervention as needed

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an Accredited Anesthesiologist Assistant Program
  • Complies with American Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants licensure guidelines
