Lancaster University has a world-class reputation as a centre for excellence in teaching and research and is highly ranked in each of the UK’s major university league tables. The Physiological Services Unit (PSU) is located within the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences, Faculty of Health and Medicine and houses a variety of laboratory animal species. All animals are cared for in accordance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA) implemented by the Home Office through the Animals in Science Regulation Unit (ASRU).
The role involves delivery of essential animal husbandry and welfare duties, which must be provided on a daily basis throughout the year. You will be expected to work some weekends and closure days as part of the out of hours PSU rota team. Working with the Technical Team you will have a genuine interest in furthering the welfare of laboratory animals and will provide reliable and enthusiastic support for animal care coupled with meticulous attention to detail. Prior experience in small animal husbandry would be preferable but not essential, as full on the job training will be provided. You will be required to work towards an apprenticeship qualification, which the department will support.
This is a full time, indefinite role.
The Division can offer you a friendly environment, which strongly supports the individual needs of each employee and actively promotes a healthy work-life balance. The Faculty is committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies and has held a Silver Athena SWAN award since 2014 (recently renewed) in recognition of its good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education and research.
We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.
