About This Program

Objective : To apply rich knowledge and research mindset and empower them to build rewarding and satisfying careers in the fields of transport and infrastructure.

Structure: Paid program of nine-month duration

Eligibility: PhD Scholars registered with any university in India or abroad in a relevant academic discipline, currently employed or doing projects in specifically identified areas (Currently pursuing PhD).

Your key activities includes: -

  • Develop AI/ML integrated models to auto-calibrate e-Visco. fans used in ICE engine vehicle
  • Develop data models which supports analysing test data
  • Support General Architecture Vision considering Global Platform Products with predictive algorithms for Volvo Trucks, Volvo Bus, Volvo Construction Equipment (VCE), Volvo Penta
  • You will be responsible for expert advice in terms of data usage, transformation and algorithms to the data science team and identify the best data-driven solution, from roadmap to strategy, to building and operationalizing models. Your expertise is in quickly realising which ML approach to take for a specific problem and the caveats of that approach.
  • You get the opportunity to follow your Data Driven Models from script to test cell to verification in a truck and eventually to being used by our end customers.

Thermal Management is a department within Vehicle Technology responsible for developing, delivering, and maintaining an optimized cab climate and vehicle cooling & heating systems for all types of propulsion installations to all truck brands within the Volvo Group. We are responsible for leading the work with strategies and advanced engineering globally. We are located at Gothenburg & Bangalore and we have close cooperation with the sites in Greensboro and Lyon. We understand the final customer needs and apply our knowledge to develop technical concepts and solutions that satisfy customer and business needs. The work is based on innovation, shared technology, common architecture, and brand uniqueness.

We are now looking for a Research Engineer who will be support us in developing Systems which supports future optimized Vehicle thermal management system for all the truck brands within Volvo Group.

In this position, you will support to develop platforms which enables long-term strategy and implementation of the Thermal management system with our system owners and thermal system architects. We are responsible for the CAB climate feature for Volvo Trucks and manager functional safety, Cyber security and proactive quality.

We have an agile way of working, where each team plan their activities in sprints and deliver solutions together as a team. The tasks can be either part of a larger project or short tasks to improve products currently in production.

  • A Master Degree holder in Automobile/Mechanical/Electronics/Computer Science pursuing a PhD in Data Science or Equivalent with good knowledge on mechatronics
  • You must have good exposure to Product Development and System Engineering in automotive domain, preferably Vehicle Thermal Management domain.
  • You must have a proven experience in Data modelling - good knowledge of statistics (Inference, Optimization, Bayesian statistics) and machine learning, Deep Learning, Time series etc. and should be able to deploy various ML algorithms to solve complicated problems (prediction, automation, real time optimization etc)
  • Full working knowledge of few of the following algorithms – SVM, k-NN, DT, DL(AE, GAN, LSTM etc..) with experience of implementation in a productionized solution
  • You can work smoothly with tools like Python (including libraries like Numpy, SciPy, Pandas, Tensorflow), R, SQL, Git, Azure, Hadoop, pySpark, C/C / Scala.
  • Should be able to adequately explain which machine learning algorithm will be suitable for the problem statement, including defining the predictor and target variables, measurement of variables, hyperparameters etc.
  • Clear understanding on the applications and limitations of supervised, unsupervised, and semi supervised learning. Knowledge about self-learning systems is a plus
  • Knowledge on embedded systems and its software systems is a plus

You have a willingness to learn and take more responsibility with can-do attitude.

Experience of working with relational databases, data privacy and understanding of IOT based instrumentation design with additional data logging to build or validate models is a big plus.
