Job Description

Position Purpose: Responsible for coordinating on-farm trips, setting up work areas, assisting veterinarians chute-side, and other daily lab activities. Provide exceptional professional services to cattle and small ruminant producers across CA, NV, AZ, and southern OR territories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with client services to schedule on-farm trips with clients.
  • Travels to Trans Ova satellite centers and on farm for embryo transfer and ovum pick-up procedures.
  • Assists veterinarians with embryo transfer and ovum pick-up procedures.
  • Maintains good relationships with Trans Ova clients, including following up and calling on them.
  • Actively seeks new business opportunities.
  • Confidently handles livestock using low-stress techniques.
  • Sets up medias and supplies used during the collection of embryos or oocytes.
  • Manages inventory and ordering of supplies in an organized and timely manner.
  • Accurately handles and evaluates embryos and oocytes according to IETS protocols.
  • Freezes embryos for storage in liquid nitrogen.
  • Oocyte searching and evaluation for IVF.
  • Maintains good laboratory techniques and follows lab protocol.
  • Displays exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Independently manages work schedules and plans on-farm trips.
  • Monitors and records temperatures, lot numbers, and other pertinent quality control information.
  • Appropriately labels embryo straws and canes according to Trans Ova policy and IETS protocol.
  • Completes accurate documentation of data and procedures.
  • Safely handles liquid nitrogen.
  • Appropriately handles frozen embryos on-farm and in a lab setting.
  • Operates lab equipment including microscopes, pipettes, and embryo freezers.
  • Monitors and fills nitrogen storage tanks.
  • Inputs data into Trans Ova systems from ovum pick-up, flush, and embryo transfer procedures.
  • Consistently coordinates with client service, sales, marketing, veterinarian, and IVF lab teams.
  • Communicates openly and honestly with team members and supervisor.
  • Follows Trans Ova employee policies.
  • Maintains a professional image reflective of Trans Ova’s industry position.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Animal Science or similar degree in animal agriculture

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

  • Ability to travel during seasonal spikes up to five days per week, with potential for weekend work.
  • Ability to put in long days (over 12 hours) during the seasonal spikes.
  • Ability to travel on overnight trips/ for consecutive days at a time.
  • Ability to travel long distances to provide coverage for other regional sites as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.

Other Skills/experience

  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to operate a company vehicle.
  • Good communication and client service skills.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Livestock handling experience preferred.
