The ideal candidate will be an experienced and licensed teacher in the respective discipline area who has demonstrated exemplary teaching and instructional leadership skills.

Department Lead Teacher Responsibilities

The department lead teacher’s classroom will serve as a model classroom for effective instruction. Teachers appointed as Leads will teach 3 out of six periods per day, rather than the 4 applicable to all other teachers, department leads will plan, facilitate and/or participate in new teacher orientation sessions, professional development sessions (including early release days), faculty meetings, Chelsea Professional Learning Academies and PLCs as needed. Plan, present and debrief all department meetings. Budget and order materials, gather and distribute professional and technical resource materials. Organize common and standardized assessments, timelines and testing materials. Collect data and lead department members in analyzing assessment data to inform instruction and recommendations for student placement. Support the development of common assessments and implementation of Massachusetts Frameworks. Participate as a team member of ILT, IST, or other appropriate school teams. Additional related duties as determined by the principal. Responsibilities extend beyond the regular school day/school year
