The Environmental Consultant is responsible for monitoring, assessing, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations related to air quality, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous materials, and hazardous waste. This role involves conducting inspections, managing environmental permits, investigating environmental health concerns, and developing programs to mitigate environmental risks. The Environmental Consultant should have a specific focus on California Environmental regulations. Essential Duties And Major Responsibilities

  • Inspection and Compliance:
    • Conduct inspections of facilities and sites to ensure compliance with environmental health regulations concerning air quality, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous materials, and hazardous waste
    • Identify and document violations, provide recommendations for corrective actions, and follow up to ensure compliance
    • Issue citations and fines for non-compliance as necessary
  • Air Quality Management:
    • Monitor air emissions from industrial and commercial facilities to ensure compliance with air quality standards
    • Conduct air quality sampling and analysis and develop strategies to reduce air pollution
  • Wastewater and Stormwater Management:
    • Oversee the management of wastewater and stormwater systems to ensure they meet environmental regulations
    • Conduct water sampling and testing to identify contaminants and ensure proper treatment
    • Develop and implement stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs)
  • Hazardous Materials and Waste Management:
    • Ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste
    • Develop and implement hazardous waste management programs and emergency response plans for hazardous material incidents
    • Conduct risk assessments and create plans to minimize exposure to hazardous substances
  • Environmental Permitting and Reporting:
    • Assist in obtaining and maintaining environmental permits related to air, wastewater, stormwater, and hazardous materials
    • Prepare detailed reports and documentation for regulatory agencies
    • Maintain accurate records of inspections, investigations, and compliance activities
  • Environmental Health Assessments:
    • Investigate complaints and incidents related to environmental health, such as pollution, hazardous material spills, and non-compliance issues
    • Collect and analyze environmental samples to identify potential health hazards and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Public Education and Outreach:
    • Develop and deliver educational programs and materials to inform the public and stakeholders about environmental health issues and regulations
    • Conduct community outreach to promote environmental health initiatives and awareness
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other health professionals, government agencies, businesses, and community organizations to address environmental health issues
    • Provide technical assistance and guidance to stakeholders on environmental health and safety practices
  • Emergency Response:
    • Participate in emergency response activities related to environmental health hazards, including chemical spills, natural disasters, and pollution incidents
    • Develop and implement emergency preparedness and response plans
  • Responsible for team management and mentoring including project scheduling, timesheet and expense report review & approval, meetings, administrative management functions, and approvals
  • Cultivate new business opportunities, assist in relationship building, and transition to the Business Development team for sales closure
  • Remain current on changing environmental and safety laws, regulations, and local ordinances, and how they may impact clients

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of environmental health principles, laws, and regulations related to air quality, wastewater, stormwater, hazardous materials, and hazardous waste in California
  • Excellent analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
  • Effective communication and public speaking abilities
  • Proficiency in using environmental testing equipment and software applications
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • High level of computer proficiency, including proficiency of all Microsoft Office products

Education

  • Bachelor's degree – Environmental Health, Environmental Science, or equivalent is required

Experience

  • 5 or more years of Environmental Health experience

Preferred Career Certifications

  • Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)
  • Registered Environmental Manager (REM)
  • Trainer of Record (ToR)
  • Qualified Industrial Stormwater Practitioner (QISP)
  • ICC California UST System Operator (DO)

Wage: $95,000 to $125,000 annually depending on experience and certifications held and active. Travel is required 60% of the time, expenses are company-paid.
