About Operation Food Search:

Founded in 1981, Operation Food Search is a hunger relief organization that provides food, nutrition education and innovative programs in order to reduce food insecurity and increase equitable access to food. We serve 200,000 people every month through a network of 330 partners in 40 counties in Missouri and Illinois. We use a combination of immediate food assistance and supportive services, while also working on long-term solutions and systemic changes to help solve the problem of hunger.

Position Summary

Operation Food Search is looking for a passionate and experienced fundraiser who loves connecting donors to mission and community impact. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Development will play a key role in the annual fundraising efforts. With a particular focus on working with individual donors throughout the giving cycle, the Director of Development will manage a complex direct response and stewardship program and a portfolio of individual donors. The Director of Development will also contribute to endowment and legacy giving efforts. This position will lead and support a strong staff team, including the Special Events Manager, the Volunteer & Food Drive Manager, and the Development Coordinator.

Essential Functions

  • Engage a community of supporters who care about solving hunger.
  • Provide supervisory oversight of special events, volunteers, food drives, donor stewardship, and data integrity.
  • With the Chief Development Officer, develop fundraising strategy, annual plans, and budgets.
  • Serve as the primary relationship and project manager for OFS’s direct response program, including print and digital.
  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit new and current major gift donors.
  • Learn the individual passions and motivations of donors and create a customized, personal approach to every donor interaction.
  • Approach donor strategy with the longevity of the organization as well as the donor’s immediate intent in mind, integrating planned, endowment, and long-term stewardship plans as part of the solicitation and cultivation process.
  • Record donor interactions, relationships, and other relevant information in Donor Perfect.
  • Help define and enhance departmental procedures.
  • Lead donor cultivation and stewardship events as needed.
  • Participate in endowment and capital campaigns and legacy giving as needed.

Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required
  • 7-10 years of professional experience in fundraising
  • 2-3 years of supervisory experience
  • CFRE is a strong plus

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Passion for OFS’s hunger relief mission
  • Goal focused, energetic professional with a track record of building strong donor relationships
  • Experience leading a strong, effective staff team
  • Excellent communication skills and a drive to consistently exceed donor expectations
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • Knowledge of Donor Perfect or other CRM systems
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced non-profit environment

Special Requirements

  • Occasional travel required for meetings, events, and conferences
  • Flexibility in working hours for occasional special events after-hours or weekend activities
  • Willingness to volunteer for other OFS duties that don’t fall under regular job duties

Working Conditions And Physical Demands

  • Sedentary inside office work with limited exposure to weather conditions
