Job Summary

The Director of A.B.L.E. I will assist the Administrator A.B.L.E. programs/Director of Adult Services in providing administrative, clinical and programmatic operations of Day Habilitation Services supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.

Competencies/Skills

  • Understanding of day habilitation services including how to establish systems for smooth day habilitation functioning and managing staff to carry out the mission of the program
  • Knowledge of atypical person with intellectual or developmental disabilities including mild through severe disabilities in physical, health, cognitive, social/emotional, communication, and sensory functioning;
  • Ability to hire, supervise, and motivate staff to achieve high levels of day habilitation services performance;
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in functioning without constant and direct supervision or guidance and ability to display sound judgment and make reasonable decisions independently;
  • Ability to assess and manage team dynamics and development as an on-going activity;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the agency’s mission, vision, values and goals through leadership;
  • Demonstrated ability and commitment to function as a healthy & therapeutic role model maintaining personal and professional self-awareness;
  • Demonstrated understanding and adherence to the agency’s treatment philosophy and protocols;
  • Demonstrated receptive and cooperative attitude and effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with others (individuals and their families, supervisors and other professionals) to nurture good working relationships;
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain professional relationships with colleagues, subordinates, individuals’ families and other stakeholders while remaining non-judgmental, objective and upholding appropriate boundaries;
  • Demonstrated effective utilization of verbal & physical crisis intervention techniques;
  • Demonstrated understanding of general environmental & safety policies/procedures with a focus on PICA safety;
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to attend to all required documentation;
  • Demonstrated understanding of member’s confidentiality regulations and protocols (HIPPA);
  • Demonstrated functional knowledge of computer skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgetary management;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of policies and procedure for reporting suspected abuse & neglect;
  • Demonstrated ability to understand conflict management and dispute resolution;
  • Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, racial, and socio-economic issues;
  • Demonstrated understanding of Human Resources functions and protocols;
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and ensure compliance with licensing, certification, accreditation & funding agent regulations and protocols.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Promotes a respectful and dignified habilitative environment for all individuals at all times;
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the provision of the day habilitation services;
  • Monitor compliance with all applicable laws and regulations governing the provision of the day habilitation services;
  • Implement and oversee the day habilitation provider’s policies and procedures;
  • Hire, oversee training, supervise, evaluate and when necessary fire staff members;
  • Oversee member’s services and participate on all interdisciplinary teams;
  • Report to MassHealth agency and other involved agencies, as requested and required by the agency or agencies;
  • Assesses, develops, teaches and supports members’ habilitation goals/objectives, monitoring effectiveness through data collection;
  • Assist in development, coordination and implementation of ISP goals and objectives and behavioral plans relevant to Day Habilitation program;
  • Ensures review of member’s goals/objectives in treatment team meetings on a regular basis;
  • Provides support to member’s concerning daily personal and social issues;
  • Provides advocacy for members, which includes contact with families, day habilitation placement and other service providers;
  • Maintains a positive and professional relationship with the neighbors, community members, involved family members, colleagues and funding sources;
  • Provides crisis assessment, prevention and needed intervention utilizing Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) techniques as trained;
  • Provides supervision, training and evaluation for Developmental Specialists and Day Habilitation Aides;
  • Ensures provision of adequate supporter coverage during operating hours of the program;
  • Maintain driver’s license;
  • Ability to carry supplies, groceries, etc. as needed;
  • Ability to attend pool, with individuals, up to and including lifting and swimming as needed;
  • Oversees staff scheduling and provides skilled shift coverage;
  • Cooperates and participates in internal investigations;
  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned by the Administrator of A.B.L.E. I & II/Director of Adult Services;
  • Able to speak, read and write Standard English, which is necessary for the safety and well-being of the members we support;
  • Participate in applicable internal investigations;
  • All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of Developmental Specialist and Day Habilitation Aides as needed;
  • Directly responsible to and supervised by the Director of Adult Services;
  • Provide supervision to the consultants and nurses;
  • In the absence of the Director of Adult Services, oversees all day habilitation coordination and management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with at least three years of relevant health care experience, of which at least two of those years must have been spent in a supervisory role.
  • Six years’ of relevant health care experience, with three of those years serving in a supervisory role, may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license for more than one year and be ready, willing and able to drive the Company’s wheelchair and/or mini-vans safely according to Massachusetts driving laws.
