GENERAL DUTIES

Clinical

  • Demonstrates competence and knowledge in the assessment and treatment or care of adult to geriatric patients in interviews, exercise therapy and discharge process.
  • Assess and document activity level, vital signs, symptoms, psychosocial concerns of inpatients and outpatients.
  • Works collaboratively with cardiac rehab team members and consults with medical director when indicated.
  • Responds appropriately to medical emergencies in inpatient and outpatient therapy in the hospital and the offsite settings.
  • Coordinates and supervises exercise classes.

Quality

  • Adheres to established hospital and departmental guidelines and standards.
  • Participates in continuing education programs to maintain competency.
  • Report’s exposures appropriately and maintains a safe environment for cardiac rehab participants.
  • Recognizes and takes corrective actions to correct unsafe conditions utilizing proper channels of communication.
  • Operates all unit equipment safely and within the guidelines of the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Program Goals

  • Assists in the development of admission criteria in conjunction with the Medical Director and in accordance with AACVPR guidelines.
  • Assists in program growth by scheduling referrals and making recommendations for increased patient participation.
  • Prepares and delivers and community lectures. Counsels and renders behavior modification techniques for reduction of heart disease risk factors.

Growth

  • Attends related in-service programs, workshops, seminars, and/or certification programs to enhance professional growth and development.
  • Performs other duties assigned related to the operation of the Cardiac Rehabilitation area.

Experience Qualifications

1 year of experience Cardiac Rehab, Pulmonary

Education Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree Kinesiology/Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

Certified Exercise Physiologist American College of Sports Medicine

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider American Heart Association

Skills And Abilities

  • Previous team involvement with Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation programs and group or individual exercise sessions.
  • Ability to safely operate all forms of exercise equipment available to the client, convey instructions on exercise performance as delineated in the exercise prescription, respond appropriately to questions relating to a client's physical exercise plan, maintain the cleanliness, functionality of the exercise equipment and environment.
  • Knowledge of the operation of fitness equipment, anatomy/physiology and the application of appropriate exercise prescriptions, assessments utilized in the fitness center and preventive maintenance.
  • Ability to perform EKG recognition/interpretation.
