IT System Administrator Job Description

Campbell Scientific South Africa is currently seeking an IT System Admin. This role involves managing and maintaining our IT systems, ensuring network security, and supporting various IT infrastructure projects. The position requires a strong understanding of system operations, network configurations, and cybersecurity protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Maintenance: Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software applications, and hardware components.
  • Network Management: Oversee network operations, including setting up network hardware and software, monitoring network performance, and troubleshooting issues.
  • Security: Implement security measures to protect systems from cyber threats, including firewalls, antivirus software, and data encryption.
  • User Support: Provide technical support and training to end-users, addressing any issues related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability in case of system failures.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of IT assets, configurations, procedures, and user guides.
  • Compliance: Ensure that IT infrastructure complies with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.


Skills and Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.), networking protocols, and security technologies.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Time Management: Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CompTIA Network , CompTIA Security , Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) are advantageous.


Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Proven experience as a System Administrator, Network Administrator, or similar role.


Work Environment

  • Office-Based: Primarily working in an office environment with some potential for remote work.
  • On-Call: Availability for on-call support outside regular working hours for emergency issues.
