Job Description Summary

This position will work 4 days per week from the San Luis Obispo Campus and 1 day per week at the North County Campus in Paso Robles. The schedule will be developed collaboratively by the incumbent and the supervisor.

DEFINITION

Under the general supervision of the Director, Workforce, Economic Development and Community Programs, coordinate and oversee programs in Career Connections and Work Experience and perform other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Employment Services Coordinator position is distinguished by the requirement to plan, organize, and coordinate programs in Workforce Economic Development, Career Connections, and Internships. Provide assistance and specialized information for work experience, internships, and career services. Coordinate communications and information between students, staff, faculty, employers and the public in the implementation and promotion of services and enhancement of employment opportunities.

This position supports student learning outcomes by facilitating employment and volunteer-based learning, providing career and work experience-related services to students, and by ensuring that the policies and regulations of these programs are upheld.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions & Qualifications

  • Coordinate career services for the college, including the daily schedule and operations of Career Connections;
  • Assist with the implementation of the Cooperative Work Experience program;
  • Serve as liaison with employers for job postings and placements, internships, career pathways, and labor market and workforce information;
  • Maintain, update and utilize a job bank database, in collaboration with other campus and county job-placement programs, including updating employer contact information;
  • Develop resources and tools on job search techniques, job search portfolio elements and career exploration;
  • Present information on job search techniques, job search portfolio elements, career exploration, and employment, internship and volunteer opportunities to students, program participants and community members through workshops, one-on-one training, classroom visits, job fairs, and other contexts;
  • Provide mentoring related to work-readiness development, career exploration, job search portfolio development, academics and work experience and placement;
  • Develop placements for paid and/or unpaid work experience, work study, internships, and community service on campus and off campus with employers in the public and private sector;
  • Facilitate processes for Work Study on and off-campus placements, including contracts, hiring, timesheets and payroll;
  • Serve as contact for WIB, EDD, America's Job Center for training options at Cuesta;
  • Compile and analyze labor market and skills gap data to assist the programmatic decision-making process;
  • Lead the process of updating the Employment Panel Training List for new and existing courses;
  • Establish and coordinate the Career Connections/Cooperative Work Experience Employer Advisory Committee and recommend employers for CTE Advisory Boards;
  • Maintain student, faculty and employer compliance with Title V, California Code of Regulations, district-approved local plan guidelines, and district policies;
  • Collect required documentation and maintain all records as required by Title V, California Code of Regulations;
  • Oversee marketing of career and employment services and programs: prepare and disseminate promotional articles and materials; ensure up-to-date information on the Career Connections and other websites and other relevant marketing outlets;
  • Establish and oversee resources and processes to link employers and specific jobs and internships with Cuesta students collaborating with academic programs, faculty and local employers;
  • Monitor, update and maintain student enrollment records and activities;
  • Oversee reporting, including data collection, thorough completion of reports, timely submission, and troubleshooting problems identified by the college or State Chancellor's Office, in particular, for the Student Success and Support Program (3SP);
  • Monitor program operation budget accounts, expenditures and timecards;
  • Assist with the program review process and follow-up as necessary;
  • Update procedures for effective program review and other college information needs;
  • Organize and oversee Advisory Committee for Career Connections, in coordination with Cooperative Work Experience and Institute for Professional Development;
  • Participate in departmental meetings, advisory committees, and other related groups;
  • Maintain confidentiality;
  • Promote positive relationships in the community; and
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Two (2) years working in an instructional setting, such as career services, cooperative education, work experience or vocational guidance.
  • One (1) year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in providing services and training in career exploration, job search process, resume preparation and interview strategies, job/employer development, and local labor market characteristics and skills gap analysis.

Preferred

  • Two (2) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in providing services and training in career exploration, job search process, resume preparation and interview strategies, job/employer development, and local labor market characteristics and skills gap analysis.

Knowledge Of

  • Current work-readiness and job-search skills, job search portfolio elements, labor market information, skills gap analysis, Community College Job Placement, and Cooperative Work Experience and internship programs;
  • Employment preparation, including search and hiring techniques and practices;
  • Occupational terminology, occupations, and basic requirement for jobs;
  • Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
  • Methods and practices of record keeping and report preparation;
  • Applicable sections of State Education Code and other applicable laws, including those pertaining to Cooperative Work Experience, internships and other experiential education programs;
  • The needs and sensitivities of special and disadvantaged populations;
  • Current technologies, personal computer, and associated office software such as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and/or database software;
  • Correct usage of English, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary; and
  • District organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Ability To

  • Apply Federal, State, and District rules, regulations, procedures, and policies;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties; and
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and of staff and students with physical and learning disabilities;

Physical Ability To

  • See for the purpose of reading laws and codes, rules and policies, and other printed matter;

  • Exert manual dexterity sufficient for keyboard and other office equipment operation.

License and Certificates (current within the last year or must be continuously current):

  • Valid driver's license and eligible to obtain California driver's license upon hire

SALARY SCHEDULE

Below is the full salary schedule range for this position, steps A through E. Per Cuesta College's bargaining agreement, new employees are placed at Steps A through C, which is the anticipated hiring range also listed below.   • Salary Schedule Range: $5,414 - $6,581 per month.
  • Anticipated Hiring Range: $5,414 - $5,969 per month.
