The Babitt Lab at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly motivated candidate for a Research Technician position. A particular focus of the laboratory is to identify the molecular basis underlying systemic iron handling and the links between these pathways and the crippling complications of iron disorders and chronic kidney disease. We employ state-of-the-art multidisciplinary experimental approaches, including novel mouse genetic models, primary cell isolation and culture, signal transduction assays, advanced microscopy techniques, flow cytometry, and multiomic approaches, among others. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining mouse colonies and genotyping. (S)He will also assist in animal and cell culture experiments, sample and data analysis. Principal Duties And Responsibilities

Prepares basic solutions and performs base-level procedures as assigned (i.e. – pipetting, cell and tissue culture, etc.)
Maintains laboratory notebook
Understands and applies basic scientific techniques
Conducts analysis of results and may begin interpretation of results
Sets up and prepares routine experiments as directed
Prepares lab reagents, chemicals, instruments and equipment
May perform independent literature searches
Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation
Maintains and orders supplies
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
Ability to work independently and as a team member
Good communication skills
Computer literacy
Working knowledge of clinical research protocols
Ability to perform multiple tasks independently
Qualifications
The successful candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related discipline. Willingness to work with mice and excellent communication skills are essential. Relevant molecular biology training will be offered if necessary. Prior laboratory experience or working experience with mice is preferred, but not required.
