About The Department
In collaboration with the George Mason University community, and as a part of the Office of the Provost, the Division for Enrollment Management optimizes student recruitment and retention by developing and implementing strategic enrollment plans, overseeing the admissions process, providing financial aid services, and managing the Mason Student Services Center-a centralized student services resource. The Division's activities support the achievement of institutional enrollment goals by placing the student (and family) at the center of our work, supporting a culture of transparency, and leveraging data to inform decision-making.
The Office of Admissions facilitates the recruitment and enrollment of freshmen, transfer, graduate, and non-degree students in alignment with the University's strategic plan, ensuring a diverse and successful student body that contributes to the institution's excellence and global impact.
About The Position
The George Mason University Office of Admissions is seeking a motivated and versatile individual with flexible work hours for a part-time position as a Graduate Admissions Assistant. Responsibilities
The primary duties of the Graduate Admissions Assistant include:
Respond to inquiries from a variety of sources and provide information to necessary parties in a timely and professional manner;
Process graduate applications for faculty admissions review;
Stay up-to-date on all new admissions initiatives and processes;
Research incomplete applications for missing documentation for student applications; and
Contact applicants on a regular basis regarding their applications.
The incumbent must be prepared to handle a large volume of work in a deadline-driven environment. This position functions as a backup processing specialist, focusing on serving as a key contact for transcript audits required each semester for incoming graduate students.
Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Schedules will be created based on the need of the office with due consideration to your personal schedule.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;
Professional communication skills, both written and verbal;
Demonstrated ability to perform work with substantial attention to detail;
Ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations;
Ability to handle confidential information with the highest level of discretion;
Ability to balance multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment;
Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a busy environment;
Ability to learn policies and procedures quickly;
Proficient with technology and able to learn new systems;
Experience with professional business communications and procedures; and
Demonstrated customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in higher education;
Experience working with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software; and
Bilingual.
