Associate R&D Chemist

Job Description

Major Function:

The Associate R&D Chemist’s responsibilities are to develop new and novel products for the Company and to support efforts required to bring the new products or opportunities to a successful conclusion for the company. In addition, their role is to provide technical expert support to Sales & Marketing, EHS, Quality and Production.

Major Duties:

  • Take active role in problem solving of customer issues using appropriate methodology.
  • Able to work on multiple and varied projects with little to no direction.
  • Work with outside manufacturers when necessary to coordinate prototypes and samples.
  • Stays abreast of developments in the scientific field and continue to demonstrate continuous performance improvement.
  • Manage protocol writing and other technical reporting as required.
  • Assist in the development of novel products to support the growth of the company and work with transitions across departments for commercial launch.
  • Assist in training employees (new hire and refresher); communicating with management to identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist in efforts to manage Vendor/Supplier System: reviewing, approving, documenting proposed and existing suppliers (as needed).
  • Assist in efforts to manage Approved Material System: review, approve, and document new materials to be used onsite for quality and conformance to internal requirements; collect, maintain, and update material documents and certifications (as needed).
  • Coordinate sampling and testing with outside laboratories (as needed) as they pertain to R&D functions.
  • Perform batch validation testing, corrections, and documentation (COA, etc.) in support of new product or business opportunities.
  • Maintain laboratory records following AMSi retention policies or practices.
  • Maintain quality/lab equipment calibrations and documentation of same.
  • Preparation of reagents and formulations
  • Contribute to our standard operating procedures
  • Assist with the resolution of investigations, customer complaints and review and draft batch records.
  • Other similar tasks as assigned by management.

  • A background which demonstrates strong documentation practices and experience
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a multi-functional team
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office programs

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Chemistry, Life Science, Engineering or related field from an accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
  • Preferred majors: Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Life Sciences.
  • Minimum 3-6 years of laboratory experience.
