Concept Artist position at The People's Orchestra

About The Role

The People's Orchestra is a vibrant, inclusive community orchestra based in Birmingham, UK, dedicated to bringing the joy of film, game, TV, and show music to audiences and musicians alike. Founded with a vision to make orchestral music accessible and exciting for all, we've grown into a beloved local institution that combines professional leadership with amateur enthusiasm.

We’re now looking to expand our visual presence to match our musical impact.

As a passionate and imaginative Concept Artist, you'll be the visionary force behind the visual representation of our music, working closely with our Orchestral Manager and Marketing team.

How You'll Spend Your Time

  • Conceptualising and developing distinctive designs for concert posters, program booklets, and digital media in a variety of art forms and styles. Visual arts creation will include conceptual art and composited works, spanning to vector graphics and asset creation
  • Creating engaging visuals that capture the essence of our musical repertoire
  • Collaborating with the Orchestra Manager and Marketing team in brainstorming sessions to conceptualize visual elements for upcoming performances and events
  • Iterating on designs based on feedback from internal stakeholders
  • Contributing to the creation of a visually compelling and cohesive brand identity for The People's Orchestra

What You'll Find Here

  • A highly collaborative team of musicians and creatives who manage a range of performance and community initiatives
  • An ambitious but supportive environment - we're here to redefine community orchestras and change how people experience orchestral music
  • A culture built on inclusivity, creativity, and shared passion for music
  • A highly invested leadership team who believe our people are what make our orchestra special
  • Strong musical foundations, but an openness to innovative visual interpretations

We'd love to see from you

  • Proven experience as a Concept Artist
  • Strong portfolio showcasing conceptual design skills, particularly in arts contexts
  • A genuine passion for orchestral music, particularly film scores, game soundtracks, and show tunes
  • Proficiency in digital art tools and software – Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrate. Blender or alternative comparable software proficiency is ideal, but not mandatory. Awareness of Canva/Express is helpful.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, community-oriented environment
  • Be an artist at heart with a good ear for music!

Our mission is to make orchestral music fun and accessible for everyone. To create inclusive experiences, we need an inclusive team. We promote a diverse and inclusive culture at The People's Orchestra.

Our interview process typically consists of the following stages:

  • Initial screen with our Orchestra Manager, with portfolio review
