Elevate your engineering career by joining us as a Lead Overhead Transmission Lines Engineer. In this pivotal role, you'll leverage your expertise to deliver top-tier engineering, estimating, planning, and quality management services. Using your extensive engineering knowledge, you'll direct work on high-complexity projects and operations, ensuring safety, quality, and adherence to budget and timelines. Your analytical acumen and leadership will drive engineering studies and designs, fostering innovation and excellence in every endeavor. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of T&D Lines CIMA Leadership Team.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead a project design team, including junior and intermediate staff.
  • Design overhead lines and associated facilities for voltages from 60kV to 735kV in an electric utility environment, including transmission towers, foundations and hardware and fittings.
  • Prepare project documentation like reports, specifications, proposals, estimates, design basis, and test plans per CIMA ’s practices
  • Lead and execute design work packages with scope, duration, and effort estimates, and manage design tasks including scope, schedule, and cost for existing and new facilities
  • Provide signed/sealed engineering deliverables as a Professional of Record per EGBC and CIMA ’s practices
  • Offer technical assistance, construction support, and field reviews as required
  • Develop design criteria considering multi-disciplinary inputs from the project team
  • Lead the structural design, analysis, and detailing for structures, foundations and hardware assemblies. Review manufacturer shop drawings
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff. Review of designs prepared by others, following established practices.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement safe engineering solutions for the high-complexity projects and operations, ensuring they meet major scope requirements for major utilities in Western Canada
  • Conduct independent studies and analyses, contribute to the development of technical standards, recommend safe designs, and provide mentorship to enhance the future capabilities of CIMA ’s engineering team
  • Develop and administer procedures, methods, and controls for planning, scheduling, cost control, and technical conformance, ensuring a consistent and robust Engineering Standards process.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, review project schedules, resources, and budgets, and monitor expenditures to ensure project completion is safe, high-quality, on time, and within budget.
  • Plan, organize, and direct complex engineering and geoscience activities, making critical technical decisions and recommendations to ensure successful project implementation and resource management at CIMA .

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience
  • Registered member of a Professional Engineering association in BC, or eligible for registration in BC
  • Proficient with the PLS-CADD suite design /analysis software and CAD systems, along with familiarity of drawing standards
  • Effective communication abilities in English, including analytical skills, interpersonal communication, and presentations. French is an asset.
  • Construction / Field work experience is required.

The expected salary for this position is from $122,000 to $160,000 based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
