Job Position: Transportation Supervisor

Target Pay Range: $70,000-$80,000/year, depending on level of relevant experience and qualifications

Employment Classification: Full-Time

As a Transportation Supervisor you will play a crucial role in planning and executing transportation activities within our local fleet of 12 trucks and 16 drivers. This segment of our transportation operation is instrumental in supporting Production and Warehousing, with millions of pounds of raw materials and finished product being moved around our expansive network of facilities in and around Vernon, CA. You will also be responsible for ensuring service excellence and OTIF deliveries to the major national grocery chains that make up most of our local customer base. You will be tasked with planning and communicating local routes, including customer deliveries, pickups from vendors, and warehouse-to-warehouse movements. In addition to our fleet of daycabs and yard tractors, you will be responsible for the maintenance, fueling, and compliance of over 80 leased refrigerated trailers.

To succeed in this role, you should possess leadership acumen and the ability to effectively coach drivers on safety and performance. You should also possess a thorough understanding of transportation planning and routing shipments. Proficiency in working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) is a must, and reporting on the financial performance of your fleet will be required. The ability to intuitively leverage freight data and transform large datasets to tell a story will also be beneficial. Ability to think critically and engage multiple departments for collaborative decision making will also be a key enabler of success.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Communicates frequently with Customer Service, Procurement, and Inventory Control to ensure local deliveries, pickups, and warehouse transfers are effectively planned.

Ensures both driver and equipment compliance for State and Federal requirements, including CARB, FMCSA, and DOT.

Maintains relationship with truck and trailer leasing companies, monitoring maintenance activities and minimizing equipment downtime.

Coaches drivers on safety and performance, using in-cab telematics as a tool for turning violation events into learning opportunities.

Oversees fueling operations for both tractors and trailers, communicating effectively with vendor to ensure no service issues.

Ensures loads are planned and tracking accurately through the Transportation Management System (TMS).

Maintains financial data associated with each shipment to ensure accurate reporting to Finance.

Promptly addresses service failures, shortages/overages, customer rejections, and any other shipment exceptions within the TMS and ensures thorough documentation and communication to relevant parties.

Participates in continuous improvement events, helping build more robust and efficient processes within the logistics department.

Qualifications and Experience:

3-4 years of experience in a logistics or transportation role.

At least one year of experience supervising transportation and driver operations required.

Experience working with a fleet of trucks and refrigerated trailers required.

Strong understanding of DOT, FMCSA, and CARB regulations.

Experience working with a Transportation Management System (TMS) is required.

Experience building and optimizing routes with multiple criteria strongly preferred.

ERP experience is required, preferably within food or beverage manufacturing.

Experience Working With Cold Chain Logistics Is Preferred.

Strong analytical capabilities.

SQL Experience Is Preferred.

Data visualization experience is a plus (Looker is preferred).

Bilingual English/Spanish is required.
