Title: Rotating Equipment Specialist

Department: Maintenance

Location: Mason, MI & Hybrid (Regular domestic travel required)

Reports to: James Alexander

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week.

Job Purpose: The Rotating Equipment Specialist is a key member of the maintenance team, responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of all rotating machinery within our Landfill Gas (LFG) production facilities. This includes compressors, blowers, pumps, and auxiliary equipment. The specialist will perform regular maintenance checks, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical support for equipment upgrades and installations.


Key Areas of Responsibility


Equipment Maintenance and Inspection:

Conduct routine and preventive inspections to minimize downtime and prolong equipment life.

Maintain gas processing equipment, ensuring optimal operation and reliability.

Troubleshooting and Repairs:

Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues, utilizing a comprehensive understanding of both systems.

Perform laser alignments and minor repairs and overhauls on mechanical and electrical components.

Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues with equipment and systems, using remote access tools and on-site SCADA systems.

Performance Monitoring and Strategy Development:

Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies and methods.

Analyze equipment performance to predict and prevent potential failures.

Support the development and implementation of an internal overhaul program aimed at maintaining and enhancing the operational efficiency and reliability of all rotating equipment.

Collaboration and Technical Support:

Provide technical expertise during critical breakdowns to reduce operational impacts.

Work collaboratively with various teams to enhance equipment reliability and performance.

Lead and assist in site operations across the fleet, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.

Assist National Maintenance Facility Technicians with maintenance and repair services for power plant equipment that are powered by methane, such as engines, blowers, compressors, and other similar equipment.

Assist National Maintenance Facility Technicians with diagnosing, repairing, and documenting electrical and mechanical systems on engines.

Assist National Maintenance Facility Technicians with overhauls and major rebuilds of engines.

Safety and Compliance:

Adhere to all safety guidelines, fostering a strong health, safety, and environmental (HSE) culture.

Ensure compliance with all organizational and regulatory standards.

Documentation and Administrative Duties:

Keep detailed records of all activities and manage plant inventory.

Ensure documentation and reporting requirements are met, maintaining high standards of quality control.

Training and Development:

Support the training and development of team members, maintaining updated training records.

Lead by example, providing guidance and expertise in a multi-skilled environment.

Additional Duties:

Perform housekeeping duties and other tasks as assigned by management.

Participate in remote meetings and maintain effective communication under various conditions.

Actively ensure own health and safety and the health and safety of others through understanding and implementing workplace health and safety obligations

Support and comply with Company policies and procedures as advised and documented in the Company’s employment policies as amended from time to time and as directed by Managers/Supervisors

In addition to the duties set out above, the Rotating Equipment Specialist may be expected to perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the Company


Qualifications and Experience

Proven experience as a Rotating Equipment Specialist or similar role in an industrial setting, particularly within the Renewable Natural Gas sector.

Strong understanding of LFG production processes and the specific requirements for compressors and blowers.

Ability to travel, often for days or weeks at a time during certain seasons.

Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment for maintenance and troubleshooting.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Proficient in basic computer operations including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Skilled in data collection, interpretation, and the writing of clear, comprehensive reports and specifications.

Strong communication skills to effectively convey information to team members and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field.

Relevant certifications in equipment maintenance and safety protocols.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Ability to work weekends, holidays, and on-call hours as necessary.

Travel to all locations in North America and Canada, sometimes on short notice, is required.

Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, or walking.

Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the construction trades.


This position demands a proactive, skilled individual who can effectively manage the demands of a dynamic and critical infrastructure environment, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our LFG production facilities.
