Job Summary:

This is a 1 year term position. The program coordinator works closely with the Center for Small Town Jewish Life’s senior leadership and managers to ensure the timely and high-quality execution of the CSTJL interfaith and multicultural programs, their operations and their ongoing development. Responsibilities are focused on, but are not limited to, the execution of the Tzedakah/Zakat and Yad b’Yad programs and the coordination of the Center’s various programs on campus and in the broader Maine community. The successful candidate will perform diverse and complex functions that require strong attention to detail, independent judgment, and initiative, with a strong emphasis on developing deep relationships based on mutual benefit. The position requires a high degree of skill in communicating and interacting with students, staff, faculty, and external constituencies, as well as strong organizational skills. The successful candidate will project a positive and professional attitude, while coordinating the logistics and needs of CSTJL’s student leadership fellows both on and off the Colby campus. They must know and understand the need to maintain a high level of integrity and professionalism. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with the CSTJL managers to plan and organize CSTJL programs and events including the Maine Conference for Jewish Life, Funtensive, Shabbaton, Lipman Lecture, and more
  • Primarily responsible for the execution, evaluation, and ongoing development of the Yad b’Yad and Tzedakah/Zakat programs. Assist with monitoring, tracking, and evaluating the quantity and quality of the Yad b’Yad and Tzedakah/Zakat programs, including quantitative and qualitative data-gathering, writing reports for funders and stakeholders, collecting testimonials for communications purposes, etc.
  • Work with CSTJL student leadership fellows in the planning and execution of the Yad b’Yad and Tzedakah/Zakat programs, supporting their development and growth as student leaders. Manage administrative functions in support of the student workers, setting behavior expectations, ensuring adherence to campus/work study limits, and providing mentorship, as needed.
  • Manage and organize student volunteers and coordinate with stakeholders at Colby, the Waterville public schools, and any other relevant stakeholder groups necessary for the execution of the Center’s programs.
  • Coordinate general office workflow, ensuring the timely processing of incoming data and documents, responsiveness to internal and external inquiries, and fulfillment of various operational tasks
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills with a high level of motivation and initiative
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to handle confidential information tactfully
  • Strong business English, proofreading, and spelling skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, take initiative, solve problems, and manage multiple projects with minimal supervision as well as to adjust as new projects are assigned
  • Highly developed computer skills including extensive experience using Microsoft Office Suite, email and web applications, Google applications, database applications, as well as an interest in and ability to learn new programs
  • Ability to make an impact through work as a member of a team and diverse community
  • Inclination and skills to promote the mission and goals of the programs and the Center

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

This position is supervised by the Deputy Director of the Center for Small Town Jewish Life. The program coordinator will also work closely with the Center’s staff, interact with members of the Colby community within and beyond the Center regularly, and work closely with the Waterville Public School systems and the Capital Area New Mainers Project. This is an office position without opportunities for teaching.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Occasional evening and weekend work will be required as necessary. Occasional lifting is required. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary.
