Position Description: The Health Educator is responsible for teaching health classes across campus. The Health Educator will teach students developmentally appropriate content in accordance with our curriculum.

Essential Job Functions

  • Teaches knowledge and skills in health education, utilizing curriculum designated by SMH
  • Works cooperatively with input from Division Heads, School Nurse, Division Counselors, guest speakers, and administrators
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic instructional philosophy and congruent with course standards
  • Provides small group classroom instruction but is able to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive learning environment
  • Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares reports, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress or concerns whenever necessary
  • Assists in curriculum coordination and design across the divisions
  • Models nondiscriminatory and unbiased practices in all activities
  • Knows and complies with SMH policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Graduate with Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a Health Science degree; other relevant degrees will be considered
  • At least two years’ experience teaching Health in a school setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • State Certified Health Educator

Physical Requirements and Work Environment 

  • Work in a fast-paced environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts 
  • May work at a desk and computer for extended periods
  • Must be able to teach, instruct, and communicate with students, parents, coworkers, visitors, and other professionals in the English language
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment

Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
