Job Title: Head Men’s Basketball Coach

Department: Athletics

Reports to: Director of Athletics and Recreational Services

Job Summary:

The Head Men’s Basketball Coach will be responsible for planning, promoting and administering a quality NCAA Division II men’s basketball program. The individual will be responsible for recruitment, retention, skill training, teaching and personal/professional development of student athletes as it relates to developing a successful NCAA Division II men’s basketball program with a Championship Culture of Excellence. In addition to the men’s basketball coaching assignment, the individual will be assigned additional responsibilities by the Director of Athletics including Game Day Management for other sports as well as Fundraising. The Director of Athletics and Recreational Services will serve as the primary supervisor of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans, promotes and administers a quality Division II basketball program
  • Manages all aspects of the basketball program
  • Manages the program budget, inventory and staff (paid, volunteer and student manager support)
  • Develops a strong recruiting base of top-quality student athletes
  • Maintains basketball records
  • Displays effective on-court teaching and coaching methods
  • Schedules and maintain equipment maitenance
  • Monitors student-athletes in academics, athletics, and personal matters
  • Maintains a competitive Division II schedule
  • Manages on-court pre/current/post season practices
  • Manages, markets and promotes summer camp/clinic programs
  • Conducts fund-raising campaigns and maintains good community relations
  • Assist with Game Day operations for other sports
  • Must create, promote and manage a culture of compliance adherence to all NCAA, CIAA, University and Department Rules, Regulations and Bylaws
  • Develop a culture of excellence inclusive of developing young men for success on and off the court through developmental personal, professional and self development
  • All other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.


Experience:

  • Three to five years of progressive and successful fulltime basketball coaching experience at the college level.
  • Division II coaching experience preferred.


Qualifications:

  • Progressive Men’s Basketball Coaching Experience
  • Knowledge of and commitment to adherence of NCAA DII, CIAA and Lincoln University compliance and recruiting rules
  • NCAA Eligibility Center procedures
  • Recruitment within Southern Chester County-PA, East Coast and Northeastern area of USA preferred
  • Must have proven success in coaching, supervising and working with student-athletes
  • Must have the ability to accept and carryout assigned program responsibilities
  • Must have the ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a thorough understanding of the NCAA rules and regulations
  • Must have a demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student- athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically
  • Must communicate effectively with people from varied social, educational, and economic backgrounds
  • Must be able to work without constant supervision, make decisions, and have good judgment
  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks and projects and prioritize based on departmental functionality
  • Provide academic, personal, and professional mentoring to student-athletes
  • Must promote an atmosphere of compliance and ensuring all staff and student athletes live up to the expectations of the univeristy, athletic department and CIAA.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.


Physical Demands:

  • Moderate lifting up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and body mobility to stoop, kneel, and bend and reach.

  • The employee is subject to inside environmental conditions: protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
