Bookstore Assistant Manager

Supports the daily operations of the Prestonwood Bookstore at Prestonwood Baptist Church (PBC) through customer service, inventory management, sales and promotions, store organization and maintenance, and churchwide events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service, assisting customers with inquiries, book recommendations, and purchases
  • Maintain a friendly and welcoming atmosphere for customers
  • Analyze customer wants and needs by observing merchandise sales
  • Assist in receiving, organizing, and maintaining inventory
  • Monitor stock levels, initiate restocking procedures, and contribute to inventory assessments
  • Assist Bookstore Manager in directing and supervising staff
  • Support sales initiatives and promotions to drive store revenue
  • Develop methods and procedures to increase sales and promote business
  • Participate in creating attractive merchandise displays to highlight featured books and merchandise
  • Process transactions accurately using the POS system
  • Handle cash and other payment methods responsibly
  • Assist staff in completing complicated and difficult sales
  • Assist with scheduling staff
  • Assist in training new staff as needed
  • Assist in routine store organization and maintenance tasks
  • Assist in planning and executing store events, book signings, and churchwide events
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Growing relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior as a member of PBC
  • Previous experience in a retail or bookstore management preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Passion for Christian products
  • Ability to collaborate with staff
  • Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office programs
  • Basic skills and familiarity with POS systems
  • Ability to stand for an extended period of time, and to walk, sit, stoop, squat, and lift up to 50 pounds in the performance of job duties
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule; Sundays required
