We are seeking an exceptional and progressive-thinking, people-centred leader with a breadth of HR, OD and EDI expertise to drive the people priorities and delivery at Heartlands, impacting positively for staff and the communities we serve. The Associate Director of People (ADP) is a core member of the Hospital Executive Leadership Team and integral to shaping local strategies to meet people and service needs and will share accountability with the Hospital Board for ensuring a values-led, inclusive and psychologically safe culture.

As ADP you will provide strategically-minded and delivery-focused expertise on People priorities to the Hospital Exec. Director to enable an inclusive and highly engaged workplace. You will anticipate and get ahead of people-related challenges and opportunities, shaping and delivering strategies and practices. The role leads the development and implementation of People improvements for the hospital, ensuring that we attract, retain, develop and place the wellbeing of our people at the core of hospital strategy. Working in collaboration with the Group the ADP will be responsible for workforce planning and effective workforce redesign appropriate to local models of care.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required

With other members of the Hospital Executive Leadership Team, you will take accountability and responsibility for decisions made on people matters. The post holder will enable local resolution of all medical and non-medical employee relations' issues and ensure provision of exemplary, pro-active and business focused local people services.

You will bring about candour and openness on difficult issues, in the pursuit of a collective understanding and action. For example, diversity and inclusion and speaking up. You will work closely with other Hospital ADP's and Hospital leaders to introduce new, flexible roles and ways of working, putting workforce redesign and people at the heart of service transformation.

The role encompasses both delivery and oversight, and addresses both short-term impact and long-term planning. To be successful, you will be agile and able to manage a high volume of downward, upward, and outward demand. You will be able to act on your own initiative with little direction to land key pieces of work and will have the skills to identify issues and act quickly to find solutions. You will be as comfortable doing as you are directing, moving between rolling sleeves up and getting stuck into a task to forward planning high level strategy.

Qualifications

Essential

  • CIPD qualified.
  • Educated to post-graduate degree level or equivalent level of experience.
  • Evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
  • Desirable to have a mediation qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a senior HR and OD position.
  • Proven track record of achievement in a complex, people-facing organisation.
  • Significant employee relations experience including undertaking highly complex and contentious investigations.
  • Experience in leading diverse services and programmes across different functions, and leading and facilitating stakeholders through major change.
  • Experience of building workforce plans and new workforce models that are underpinned by robust quantitative workforce analysis.
  • Proven ability to evaluate and optimise business cases and to construct effective business models for service delivery.
  • Strong track record in promoting and delivering organisational change.
  • A thorough understanding of modern HR and OD theory and practice.
  • Excellent working knowledge of current employment law, including experience in employment tribunals.
  • Strong grasp for diversity & inclusion issues, including legislative requirements.
  • Proven track record in whistleblowing practice and responding to concerns raised within the legislative and speaking up frameworks
  • Experience of managing industrial relations in a multi-union environment.
