The role...

The Lab Informatics Manager, Software Development & Sustaining is a team leadership role with both supervisory and individual contributor responsibilities - with a focus on coding 50% of the time and people management 50% of the time. This position is central to a newly formed management team, responsible for leading multiple development teams and building technology solutions that positively impact life science research. You will manage application design, computer systems analysis, development, testing, and deployment for multiple technologies within the IT Lab Informatics area. You will partner with the CST Product Development and Production business teams, agile software development teams, and IT Operations to define requirements and identify, develop, implement, and support technology solutions. As a member of the management team, you will hold supervisory responsibility for junior IT staff engaged in delivering the rnext generation of life science technology solutions. To be successful, an individual must possess detailed knowledge of software engineering, including principles, concepts, theories, technologies, and standards. This includes specific technical knowledge of languages and system design as well as software development methodologies such as Agile/Scrum. This individual is expected to learn and understand CST’s core business processes and possess knowledge of the current software practices and tools. Additionally, this role requires the ability to form partnerships with business stakeholders and other professionals within IT to determine which systems to design and enhance to meet business goals and objectives. You will provide technical expertise in terms of software usage for functional and non-functional aspects. The role will work with software engineers and other architects to define and refine Lab Informatics to align with the business, development, deployment, and maintenance needs, with a span of influence over multiple engineering teams.

This is a Hybrid role, with expectations to be on-site 2-3 days/week.

You'll have the opportunity to...

  • Be responsible for the overall Lab Informatics DevOps and lead the analysis and software design for existing on-premise and cloud-based applications.
  • Collaborate with CST scientists, business stakeholders, enterprise architects, and external partners to develop strategies and roadmaps that provide compelling capabilities to enable life science research and development.
  • Contribute to and enhance coding standards, best practices, and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to coding standards and team processes and procedures through collaborative development
  • Collaborate effectively with a mix of internal staff, contractors, managed services providers, and vendor resources to ensure successful agile delivery of technology solutions for the Lab Informatics application portfolio
  • Oversee, participate, and approve the interviewing, hiring, and training of departmental employees; mentor junior staff and conduct performance evaluations for direct reports
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and state, federal, and local laws

Who you are and what you bring to the team...

  • Master Degree 5 years of experience OR Bachelor's 7 years of experience; Degree must be in computer science or related field (Information Technology, etc.)
  • 5 years working with Java/Python or other high-level language
  • 3 years of experience with Kubernetes/Docker - Containerization experience
  • 4 years of experience with AWS or other cloud vendors
  • 3 years of experience with TDD/BDD
  • 2 years of experience with GitHub/GitHub Actions
  • 2 years’ experience managing software development teams
  • Experience in the full software development life cycle (SDLC) and agile philosophy and scrum methodologies
  • Experience with any SAST/DAST tools
  • Experience with Angular.js/vue.js /any JavaScript frameworks

Ideally, you have...

  • Full-stack experience, including knowledge of AWS and Headless architecture.
  • Experience in life science or pharma
  • Excellent customer service with both internal and external customers
  • Effective written, oral, and presentational communication skills
  • Knowledge of Linux, Apple (Macintosh), and Microsoft technologies and environments
  • Flexibility and ability to adjust to a rapidly changing environment, toolset, and business priorities
  • Advanced knowledge of distributed transactional systems Advanced knowledge of distributed systems design
