Our client, a local public charter school in Washington, DC, is seeking a Payroll and Benefits Coordinator to support their HR and Operations teams. The ideal candidate is someone with proven experience working within a HR team, with heavy focus on payroll and benefits administration.
This is a contract (to potential hire) position that will last a minimum of 3 months. The role reports to the Director of Operations and is required on-site, 5 days/week. The pay is $25-29/hr, based on candidate experience and qualifications.

Candidate Profile And Qualifications
- Experience in – HR, working in a school environment, 2-4 years of HR, benefits and payroll experience. Familiar working with multiple insurance providers and retirement programs. Auditing experience.
- Proficient in – ADP, WorkforceNow, Microsoft Office
- Soft Skills – Excellent organizational skills and timely completion of tasks. Can handle working in a school environment
- Education – Bachelors degree required
- Proof of vaccination against covid-19: Required, including Booster
Payroll Administration; 65%
- Manages all employee payroll records
- Manages workflow to ensure all payroll transaction are processed accurately and timely
- Reviews all time and attendance records in ADP
- Provides ADP training
- Calculates and process in ADP all extra duty contracts and stipends
- Researches, analyzes and resolves payroll related problems or questions by collecting and analyzing information
- Communicates with employees and other departments to answer questions and resolve payroll and benefit problems
- Maintains employees’ confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
- Serves as point of contact for all payroll concerns
- Prepare related reports for fiscal year audit
- Ensures termination from benefits occurs in a timely manner and appropriate COBRA paperwork is issued
- Process and follow up on disability claims
- Reports and administers work compensation claims
- Reviews benefits invoices to ensure accuracy prior to processing for payment
- Responds to staff questions related to benefits
- Assists annually with updating Employee Handbook
- Participates in New Hire Orientation
- Provides periodic information throughout the year to faculty/staff on benefits updates
- Works with finance department to create and distribute annual time and effort letters
- Serves as point of contact for employees and benefit vendors
