Job Summary/Basic Function

Position Summary:

Student health promotion activities are led through Concordia’s Center for Holistic Health ( CHH ). The goal of the Center for Holistic Health is to enhance students’ personal development and academic success through the delivery of holistic health and disability services. Our dedicated staff create a safe place for students to be heard, affirmed, and empowered, because we know that when students have access to timely and effective services, they can reach their full potential.

The Health Promotion Coordinator, in collaboration with CHH Director, will oversee student health promotion and basic needs support initiatives on campus. This individual will develop, implement and evaluate programs, campaigns, and events aimed at promoting the emotional, physical, and social dimensions of student wellness.

  • Direct Student-facing Health Promotion Activities (45%)
  • Develop and implement comprehensive health promotion strategies aligned with the needs and demographics of the college’s student population.
  • Utilize various communication channels, including social media, websites, newsletters, and campus-wide announcements, to promote health-related events and resources.
  • Oversee operation of campus food pantry including, but not limited to, the ordering of food, supervision of student workers and volunteers, and maintenance of physical space.
  • Assist in the delivery and administration of emergency financial support resources for students.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate workshops and other educational strategies on topics such as sexual assault prevention, alcohol and drug use, stress management, exercise and physical activity, suicide prevention, basic needs support, and mental health awareness.
  • Division and Campus Leadership for Student Health Promotion Activities (25%)
  • Promote initiatives that facilitate student learning within the SDCL Curricular Approach learning outcomes.
  • Serve on relevant student-focused campus committees as needed.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders, including student organizations, athletics, faculty, and staff to integrate health promotion efforts into various aspects of campus life.
  • Create and distribute educational materials, resources, and campaigns to promote healthy behavior and lifestyles.
  • Serve as chairperson to the campus-wide Alcohol/Drug and Sexual Assault Prevention ( ASAP ) Committee.
  • Administration and Evaluation of Health Promotion Activities (30%)
  • Conduct needs assessments to identify health-related and basic needs concerns and trends among students (e.g., annual basic needs survey).
  • Evaluate student satisfaction and effectiveness of health promotion activities through data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in higher education health promotion to continually enhance program offerings and services.
  • Research and maintain knowledge of existing campus and community resources available to support student wellness and basic needs (e.g., housing, food, hygiene, transportation, and clothing).
  • Assist in relevant grant renewal and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a network of health promotion professionals in higher education and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related human services field (e.g., public health, social work, education, nursing)
  • 2-4 years of human services related experience (e.g., public health, teaching, case management)
  • Passion for promoting holistic health and wellness and desire to inspire health-promoting behaviors in students.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and work within a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to assist students in accessing the resources available to support their basic needs and overall wellness.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion and ability to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise astute judgment and discretion on sensitive issues

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of public health principles, theories, and strategies related to health behavior.
  • Master’s degree in public health or other human services related field
  • Professional experience in higher education
