Objective: The Weld Evaluation Technician provides weld analysis and ensures its accuracy in an exemplary manner according to company and customer,

Qualified Candidates Will Possess The Following Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience operating manufacturing machinery
  • Experience using quality tools such as micrometers, calipers and gages.
  • Proven mechanical inclination and general math and manufacturing knowledge through standardized tests
  • Basic organizational, problem-solving, communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to trouble-shoot machinery and lab equipment in order to resolve machine downtime
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • An excellent work record, including attendance, with availability for a flexible work schedule based on customer needs

Outstanding Candidates Will Possess The Following Desired Requirements

  • Experience in a test lab environment
  • Previous machine shop experience or shop classes completed
  • Experience with welding
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspection Certification

Essential Functions

Test Performance / Documentation:

  • Perform cut and etch weld evaluations, torque tests, and pull tests with documentation as required by customer specified or nationally recognized standards.
  • Collect and correlate test data and generate reports.
  • Support production part approval process (PPAP) submissions material and testing requirements as needed.
  • Comply and enforce laboratory policies, procedures, and instructions.

Lab Operations / Troubleshooting

  • Organize and maintain test equipment and test areas to optimize productivity.
  • Perform necessary prep work, which may include operating a plasma-cutting torch, band saw, wet saw, microscope, and working with chemicals and polymer mounts.
  • Troubleshoot any machine or equipment problems and perform corrective actions as needed.
  • Support projects as directed by the Engineering Team and Manager, driving on-time completion of testing according to timelines established.
  • Communicate with customers regarding testing and subsequent results as appropriate.

Continuous Improvement / Lean Principles

  • Participate in and support lean initiatives such as continuous improvement events and problem-solving events, identifying and eliminating all types of waste. Assist Manager and the Engineering Team with data collection. Document cost savings, consolidate processes, and eliminate unnecessary operations.
  • Suggest and implement ideas to increase personal and departmental efficiency.
  • Anticipate problems and work to eliminate them before they happen.

Quality

  • Use and maintain quality tools such as calipers, micrometers, fixtures, thread gages and data sheets.
  • Test parts according to company quality standards in a timely manner.

Safety / Organization

  • Safely use hi-lo and cranes, maintaining licenses, maintenance schedules, and inspection sheets.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), controls, safety devices and use of coolants.
  • Identify potential safety issues and take appropriate action. Ensure the environment is free of avoidable risks, and report concerns immediately, taking appropriate action to immediately rectify and resolve.
  • Maintain lab equipment and processes to Pridgeon & Clay standards.

Organization/Communication/Professionalism

  • Effectively communicate with co-workers and management personnel to enhance teamwork and communication initiatives.
  • Provide necessary, accurate, and timely feedback of all pertinent information to co-workers and management.
  • Consistently exhibit appropriate attendance habits, working the hours necessary to perform the job.
  • Organize and maintain efficiency of personal work area.
  • Consistently adhere to, and support, company policies and procedures, including ISO, IATF 16949, and safety regulations.
  • Accept instructions and duties in a positive manner.
  • Treat all co-workers with dignity and respect.
  • Exhibit all the attributes of a positive role model (including professionalism, personal integrity, and positive attitude) for employees and managers to emulate.
