Civil QA/QC Engineer

Job Purpose

To monitor and control the quality and workmanship of construction activities throughout the construction lifecycle relating to civil, architectural and structural works.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and determine all standards for inspection and testing on all processes and monitor all testing methods and maintain high standards of quality for all processes. Supervise the effective implementation of all testing and inspection programs and ensure adherence to all procedures and coordinate with various teams to conduct quality audits on processes.
• Review the quality of all materials on-site and ensure compliance with all project specifications and quality and collaborate with the department for all material procurement and maintain material quality.
• Complete all project QA/QC documents including certificates, calibration, test results, inspection requests, non-compliance reports and site instructions/observations, permanent materials, and other important QA/QC documents.
• Review and comment on procurement, construction and commissioning related QA/QC documents such as Project Quality Plans and Quality Control Procedures, deviations, material approvals etc. Agree upon, monitor and follow up with sub-contractors for the timely submission and approval of all project QA/QC related documents.
• Monitor project construction and commissioning activities, monitor the QA/QC Inspector's coverage of site inspection and surveillance activities to ensure compliance to the project quality requirements.
• Carry out random and pre-planned inspections and checking for all quality related procedures in the site and ensure activity at the site are as per approved method statement and inspection test plan.
• Liaise with the construction team to address and resolve any day-to-day site issues to address unresolved issues.
• Closely monitor subcontractor activities, associated QA/QC resource deployment, adequacy and their performance and report any shortcomings to the Project Director.
• Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and reporting.
• Any other duties as reasonable requested by the line/function manager.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field

Experience

• Minimum seven (7) years in the construction industry in the UAE
• Minimum three (3) years experience in large projects (high-rise buildings) in the UAE

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• General knowledge of QA/QC during procurement, construction and commissioning
• General knowledge of construction management processes, means and methods
• General knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
• Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and MS Office
• Working knowledge of local authorities’ requirements (RTA, DM, DEWA Etisalat, DU…)
• Competent in conflict and crisis management
• Excellent time and project management skills
• Attention to detail
• Approachable and positive attitude
• Fluent English language ability both spoken and written

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineering licence or Society of Engineers licence

• May be on-call out of regular office hours or on weekends in case of emergencies or deadlines
