Position: Sr. Mechanical Engineer
Location: Portland, OR
Responsibilities
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Project Management, Operations, suppliers, engineers, and scientists to contribute to the hardware development of highly customized, multi-million-dollar microscopes with sub-nanometer resolution.
Lead mechanical development from requirements to production release, encompassing concept layout, detailed design, analysis, and testing as necessary.
Drive efforts to improve component and assembly level cost of goods sold (COGS) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) initiatives.
Ensure project cost, quality, and schedule targets are met through effective planning and execution of mechanical work.
Offer mechanical scoping and guidance for new projects, Non-Standard Requests (NSRs), and potential portfolio changes.
Support the transition of designs to production, ensuring seamless integration and adherence to quality standards.
Provide innovative solutions to design challenges, leveraging 5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience in leading the development of complex capital equipment in the semiconductor industry.
Demonstrate proficiency in precision machine design, encompassing design for stiffness, controlling degrees of freedom, error budgeting, sensor selection, material selection, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), and design for manufacturability.
Utilize expertise in metrology, motion systems, machine vision, vacuum systems, ceramics, high voltage, wafer handling, automation, and/or charged particle systems.
Leverage knowledge of both traditional and additive manufacturing methods and joining techniques such as welding and brazing.
Demonstrate proficiency with Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software.
Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and possess experience in the semiconductor industry.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering leading the development of complex capital equipment, preferably in the semiconductor industry.
Proficiency in precision machine design, design for stiffness, controlling degrees of freedom, error budgeting, sensor selection, material selection, GD&T, and design for manufacturability.
Experience with metrology, motion systems, machine vision, vacuum systems, ceramics, high voltage, wafer handling, automation, and/or charged particle systems.
Familiarity with traditional and additive manufacturing methods and joining techniques (welding, brazing, etc.).
