The Public Historian will be responsible for research in support of and collaboration with the African American Burial Ground, Andrew P. Calhoun Family Plot and Woodland Cemetery Historic Preservation Project team and coordinating and developing public programming for the initiative. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES:
50% - Essential - In collaboration with the research team, engages in archival and primary source research and in oral history research, in conjunction with the ongoing research needs and public history initiatives for the cemetery project. Establishes priorities and maintain project deadlines for successful completion.
15% - Essential - Edits the cemetery project's monthly newsletter. Coordinates with project team to aid efforts in community engagement, including conducting research and creating content for digital and other print media such as the project website, brochures, and social media sites. Coordinates with personnel affiliated or associated with the research component of the project, such as postdoctoral fellows, undergraduate/ graduate students, interns, and volunteers. Serves as a cemetery tour guide as needed. Speaks to public and private groups to promote interest in the cemetery project.
25% - Essential - Coordinates the annual conference and assists with organizing colloquia and workshops. Assists with planning, developing, and enacting a variety of educational programs for various stakeholders, including Clemson students, faculty, staff, as well as local communities and organizations. Collaborates with local groups and organizations to create and implement mutually beneficial public programming, as well as strengthen the cemetery project's partnerships with local communities to better serve key stakeholders.
10% - Essential - Maintains scholarly affiliations and activities and engages in the activities of various professional organizations to ensure solidity of networks, and best professional practices, benchmarking against peer institutions.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Doctoral / Professional Degree in Public History, History, or related field in the Humanities
Experience - 2 years of post-doctoral research experience in African American History or related field in the practice of public history
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Doctoral / Professional Degree with a focus on African American history, Diaspora studies
Experience - 3 years experience working with university history projects focused on minoritized communities of color.

Compensation Information
Anticipated Hiring Range ($45,500.00 - $63,000.00)
Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.
