Description Of Job

This position is located in the AHEC Police Department. The AHEC Police Department provides emergency, non-emergency, technical and communications support for the Auraria Campus Community.

Duties

This position provides a communication link for emergency police and administrative services to the community of the Auraria Higher Education Center, and reports to the Police Communication Supervisor.

As a State Services Trainee V, The Person Selected For This Position Will Receive On-the-job Training And Formal Coursework Designed To Perform The Duties As a Police Communication Technician. This Position Will Be Trained To Perform The Following Duties:

  • Responding to emergency and non-emergency requests for service by interviewing, interpreting, and analyzing and prioritizing multiple, simultaneous information sources.
  • Determining the appropriate level of response for each separate call; allocating and deploying appropriate emergency personnel.
  • Utilizing and maintaining a two-way radio system to dispatch and monitor patrol personnel on routine, emergency calls and normal patrol activity to ensure officer and civilian safety.
  • Recording, documenting and extracting detailed information obtained from a variety of sources (including a computer aided dispatch system). Maintaining logs, arrest reports and records regarding criminal activity.
  • This position will also be trained to distribute police reports for administrative and judicial review; and monitor, operate and maintain Colorado and National Crime Information Center Terminals, campus alarm systems, closed circuit surveillance equipment and inter/intra-agency communications systems and other miscellaneous communications equipment.

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age

Additional Special Qualifications

  • Due to the inherent ability of this position to impact the safety and security of the Auraria Campus, candidates must be able to communicate fluently in English with others (written and verbally).
  • Applicants must not have any felony convictions, domestic violence history or alcohol offenses within the last Three (3) years.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position requires pre-employment background investigation (personal and employment history). Applicants must submit to a complete background investigation that will include a personal and employment background check for various security clearances including Colorado Crime Information (CCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) security clearance. This investigation will include a polygraph interview, fingerprint check and drug screen.
  • Any offer of employment is contingent on the successful passing of a physical and psychological examination by a licensed doctor or health care facility. The health care facility will be selected or approved by the Auraria Higher Education Center in order to determine whether the prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Designation as Essential Services. As such, this position is required to be on duty to perform essential and/or emergency services of the agency without delay or interruption.
  • On-Call Status Required. This position is required to respond on short notice to cover the communications center in case of illness or an agency emergency.
  • Shift Work Required. Dispatch function is a 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year function, as such, this position is expected to work holidays, weekends etc...as required by the demands of the job.

Per the requirements of the Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024, any State employee must be paid a rate that is equal to or greater than the appropriate step pay rate within their classification’s pay range based on completed years in their current class series as of June 30. All current and former State employees must ensure that your entire work history within the State Classified System, including at Institutions of Higher Education, is indicated in your application so that your time-in-series can be calculated accurately.
