Athletics Director

Long Island University, a private institution with more than 16,000 enrolled students, is seeking a dynamic, innovative leader for its Division I athletics program. With 2 Campuses; one located in the heart of Brooklyn steps from the Barclays Center, and the other just 27 miles outside of the city on Long Island, LIU strives to provide excellence and access in private higher education. With 37 varsity sport programs, the LIU Sharks are a part of the Northeast Conference (NEC) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

LIU is looking for an Athletic Director that understands how to develop strong external and internal relationships to help provide opportunities for growth and advancement for both the University and its student athletes. As well as cultivating a high standard of integrity, academic success and athletic excellence. The Director will work closely with coaches and staff to enhance the competitiveness of a Division 1 intercollegiate program, that fully complies with all NCAA and University policies and regulations.

The Director of Athletics will report directly into the President of the University.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an athletics program encompassing 2 campuses that is committed to LIU’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Provide and implement leadership, strategic planning, and policy development for the athletics program.
  • Work closely with the Office of Admissions to oversee coaching staff’s recruiting efforts of eligibility, diversity, and scholarship of student athletes.
  • Recruit and manage coaching staff and administrators within the athletics department.
  • Ensure compliance with all university, national association and conference polices, rules, and regulations.
  • Build and maintain long term relationships with alumni, donors, parents and athletes to help raise funding and recognition to the LIU athletic program.
  • Supervise and coordinate the utilization of athletic facilities and fields, for student and outside organization use.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of Student Athlete Advisory Committee.

Requirements And Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; Master's degree preferred.
  • 7 or more years of professional experience leading a complex, diverse athletic department.
  • Comprehensively understands intercollegiate athletic administration, and NCAA rules, regulations and compliance; preferably at the Division I level.
  • Demonstrate experience in budget management, employee supervision and fundraising.
  • Strong interpersonal skills working with a diverse group of leaders on all levels.
