Your Opportunity: The Varsity Yearbook team is looking for a Production Artist to join our team in Kansas City.

Here's How You’ll Make an Impact:

Employees in this position will be performing the tasks needed to created covers, endsheets and page art according to the customer specifications.

This position is an in-plant position.

Core Activities:

  • Coordinate with customers, customer service and other plant employees to produce cover, endsheet and page art.
  • Execute art functions from beginning to end; including sketch design, comprehensive proofs, final proofs and press confirmation.
  • All work must be thoroughly and correctly prepared within production parameters.
  • Have a professional behavior when meeting with customers and sales partners.
  • Complete proofing responsibilities as needed.
  • Work in other areas of the plant as needed, including but not limited to prepress and handwork.
  • Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by leads, supervisors and managers.

Success Indicators:

  • Accurately follow through on verbal and written communication and instruction.
  • Work efficiently and maintain the set productivity rate on a day to day basis.
  • Stay within the parameters of the set error rate which will be reviewed weekly.
  • Maintain a positive, safe, and organized working environment through professional and friendly behavior with all co-workers, leads, supervisors and managers.

What You'll Bring To The Table:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related field preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of color theory, design, and printing methods are required. Basic understand of offset lithography and silk-screen printing. Sketching and painting skills are necessary.
  • Computer skills: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator). Employee should have a strong working knowledge of the Windows and Macintosh operating systems.
  • Must be able to work all hours as needed, including overtime and weekends.
  • Posses strong creativity and design skills and be able to apply them in a timely manner at both workshops and in-plant production.
  • Assist co-workers and willingly share knowledge. Willingly work at any duty assigned in various departments
