Our client is a rapidly growing player in the medical robotics arena with a mission to digitizes the interface between the surgeon and the patient to improve minimally invasive surgery through digital laparoscopy.


This role will be part of the R&D Mechanical Engineering team and will play a key role providing leadership, technical and oversight support in the designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical components and systems for our robotic surgical platforms. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, this individual will be responsible for creating innovative solutions that meet the demanding requirements of surgical precision, reliability, and safety.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct activities relating to the designing, building, testing and evaluation of surgical device systems.
  • Apply extensive technical expertise and full awareness of other related disciplines to solve complex technical problems.
  • Ownership and working knowledge of brushless motors and gearing.
  • Manage supplier relationships and ensure part specifications are achieved.
  • Work directly with on-site model and machine shop and company technicians to ensure appropriate creation of designs and parts as required.
  • Guide the successful completion of mechanical designs while collaborating with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and software engineers, to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly into the overall robotic platform.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes that optimize performance, durability, and value.
  • Ensure mechanical designs and products comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
  • Write, review, and analyze documents and reports, such as product concepts, tolerance stack ups, requirements, test results, patents, etc.
  • Create drawings, BOMs, and associated documents and route them through the PLM system.
  • All other duties as directed.


Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5 years relevant work experience in R&D or product development.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, such as SolidWorks.
  • Solid comprehension of material selection and manufacturing techniques.
  • Understanding of medical device regulations and standards (e.g., ISO 13485, FDA, MDR guidelines) preferred.
