Assistant/Associate Professor Full-Time 10 Month Faculty, Exempt Position

Position Overview: Capitol Technology University is seeking a dedicated and experienced General Education Coordinator to join our academic team. The General Education Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and assessment of the general education curriculum, ensuring that it meets the university's educational standards and goals. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to enhance the quality of general education courses and support student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate implementation of general education assessment, curricular mapping, and course re-certification;
  • Teach three general education courses per semester;
  • Develop new policy recommendations as needed to strengthen the General Education Program based on university-wide feedback, assessment data, and best practices;
  • Promote the General Education Program to all stakeholders;
  • Take part in developing and implementing new and ongoing initiatives in Academic Affairs and in Student Affairs related to student success and retention, including the assessment of the effectiveness of placement testing and other measures that determine student course selections in communications and mathematics;
  • Work with Career Services to ensure the general education experience meets the needs of employers;
  • Work with department chairs to ensure general education courses in communications, natural sciences, and mathematics support program learning objectives and prerequisite knowledge necessary for student success;
  • Lead learning assessment activities to support the educational effectiveness of the coordinated general education program;
  • Recruit, evaluate, and provide training as needed to adjunct faculty for both on-campus and online courses;
  • Prepare regular updates and an annual report about the status and activities of the General Education Program to demonstrate learning outcomes for program-specific and regional accreditation bodies;
  • Mediate and work to resolve general education issues that arise;
  • Initiate and oversee general education committee/subcommittee meetings;
  • Work with others to recognize, develop, and coordinate co-curricular experiences that can be meaningfully implemented, credited, and tracked as part of a Capitol Tech student’s general education experience, inclusive of traditional age students, adult learners, and active duty military for both on-campus and online experiences;
  • Coordinate with online learning when using a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to build and deliver online courses;
  • Review the website and provide the webmaster any update/changes as needed;

Minimum Requirements

  • Must hold a Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Development, or a related field;
  • Have at least 2 years of teaching experience in higher education in both traditional and online environments;
  • Demonstrable experience with best practices in learning outcomes assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing, implementing, and managing general education programs;
  • Experience with curriculum development;
  • Experience in the assessment of programs;
  • Experience in specific degree program accreditation process;
  • An ability to plan, manage, and bring to completion projects related to teaching and learning;
  • Strong planning and organizational skills;
  • Experience in university administration/coordination;
  • Experience teaching general education courses;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Success in collaborative work and in working with people of different backgrounds, experiences, and opinions.

Physical Demands: There are limited physical demands; however, this position requires sitting and occasionally standing for extended periods of time and repetitive motions for tasks such as operating a computer mouse and keyboard, and hearing and speaking on the telephone. The candidate must be able to lift, pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 20 lbs.
