Job Description

To uphold and reaffirm the System’s commitment to equal employment opportunity and to support a culture of respect and inclusion in the workplace. Pursuant to its mission, the Office of EEO, through its EEO Officers, is responsible for, among other things, reviewing and responding to informal and formal complaints of discrimination, reviewing requests for reasonable accommodations, and providing specialized EEO trainings.

General Tasks And Responsibilities Will Include

Through the supervised efforts of the Office of Legal Affairs, the responsibilities of the EEO Officer includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Maintaining the System’s compliance with all federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws to ensure equal opportunity within the terms, conditions and privileges of employment;
  • Providing an internal avenue of redress through the investigation and resolution of complaints of unlawful employment discrimination and harassment;
  • Reviewing and responding to requests for reasonable accommodation, which includes requests for accommodation due to a disability; pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions; and/or status as a victim of domestic violence, sex offenses, or stalking;
  • Delivering trainings, conducting oversight, and administering EEO programs for the System;
  • Supporting the Office of Equal Employment Opportunity in the implementation of EEO best practices and initiatives;
  • Assisting with other assignments and special projects as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Baccalaureate Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Management, Sociology, Psychology or related disciplines; and,
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in two or more of the following fields: i.e. intergroup relations, community relations, labor relations, law, social service, employment of minorities, investigations or personnel administration; or,
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience sufficient to indicate ability to perform.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and City regulations, guidelines, administrative rules and procedures governing application of Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunities Acts.

Department Preferences

  • Must be familiar with federal, state and local EEO and anti-discrimination laws.
  • Must be able to report to various healthcare facilities throughout New York City to provide targeted, timely, and productive support for the Office of EEO, at the direction of the System’s Chief Employment Counsel.
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • A motivated, self-starter who adjusts readily to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and rapid change; shows versatility in handling people and situations.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills required. Adept at quickly synthesizing information to distill critical issues and formulate recommendations that consider risks, benefits and alternative perspectives.
  • Has strong people skills and is able to understand and effectively navigate within a large organizational structure.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced health care/hospital setting.
