Job Summary

The Cost Accountant’s primary role is to assist the Cost Accounting Manager in ensuring that the cost accounting function complies with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and other reporting requirements while providing management with cost information to drive strategic and operational business decisions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Month/Quarter/Year-End Requirements:
  • Analyze P&L accounts and prepare journal entries as necessary to close accounts/cost centers.
  • Prepare reconciliation of inventory.
  • Responsible for the preparation and analysis of internal monthly financial reports (e.g., margin report, income statement).
  • Monitor and run standard cost rolls (standard/variant configured costing).
  • Maintain and test cost accounting relevant master data in SAP.
  • Cost Analysis & Reporting:
  • Prepare cost analysis for new products and materials.
  • Support Lean/Kaizen production/logistics activities and analysis of project savings.
  • Monitor and communicate the progress of the cycle counting process.
  • Prepare R&D capitalization journal entries each month and maintain R&D project cost summaries.
  • Calculate R&D adder based on project costs.
  • Quarterly Forecasts and Annual Budget Requirements:
  • Work directly with assigned department managers to assist with any questions that arise while developing the forecast or budget.
  • Discuss potential cost savings that could be included in the department manager’s forecast or budget.
  • Calculate all conversion rates based on budgeted figures.
  • Prepare inventory rollforward based on production and purchasing schedules.
  • Prepare Forecast/Budget P&L based on inputs from all functional areas.
  • Special Projects & Team Management:
  • Drive special projects as assigned including accounting and financial analysis for strategic corporate initiatives.
  • Lead and participate in meetings with other functional areas.
  • Drive automation and other critical projects within the department.
  • Participate in cross-functional or global teams as assigned by management.


Essentials Skills and Experience Requirements:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of professional experience.
  • Skills:
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with SAP, IBP, BPC, BW, and Analysis Software/Add-ins is a plus.
  • Additional Qualities:
  • Initiative to understand other roles within the group and willingness to support the team in critical times of need.
  • Ability to train others in the use of reporting tools and provide guidance regarding the best and most efficient uses of these tools.
  • Capacity to add value-added meaning and analysis to reports and present report analysis to the manager and others.
