NDU Behavior Technician (BT) Job Description

Hourly Rate: $23

Our Neurodevelopmental Unit Community-Based Acute Treatment (NDU CBAT) operates 24 hours, 7 days a week. Our client population is individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Intellectual Disabilities (ID). TheBehaviorTechnician(BT) works intensively with youth by establishing routines, implementing structure and rules, developing, and strengthening their independent living skills. They track thebehavioral progress of clientele and record serious incidents and restraints. New onboards working full-time (32 hours) are expected to pledge one weekend day (8 hours) to work. We do, however, accept part-time and per-diem personnel on an as-needed basis. Our AM shift is (7-3), our PM shift is (2pm-10pm OR 3pm-11pm), our ON shift is (10pm-7:30am OR 11pm-7am).

Pre-requisite Qualifications

  • Holds current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHS); or is willing to obtain BLS certification within 30 days of hire from IHC or AHS
  • Holds a minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or Associate’s Degree
  • Able to reasonably demonstrate physical intervention/restraint procedures
  • 1 year of experience working with children, or advanced coursework at the college level in either: psychology, education, health, or a related field please consult HR for details if you feel your experience merits
  • Exposure to Autism and Intellectual Disabilities populations and/ experience with ABA or psychologystrongly preferred

Core Responsibilities

The BT is a direct care staff of a multidisciplinary team in an acute, short-term (approx. 4-8w) residential mental health setting, supervised by the Program Manager of the NDU:

  • Provide high-quality client care adhering to IHC standards of care
  • Performbehavioral management and intervention tasks under the supervision of the Program Manager and the BCBA
  • Accurately record and report clients' ADLs and medically sensitive data, assisting with nutrition, hydration, and elimination needs.
  • Provide constant observation as directed by the Program Manager
  • Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) as appropriate
  • Communicate effectively through verbal and written serious incident and Safety Care (QBS) restraint reports, and upkeep electronic medical records via EHana
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager andBehaviorAnalyst in implementingBehaviorIntervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Perform preference assessments, Discrete Trial Training, and Task Analysis as directed
  • Ongoing data analysis andbehavioral and sleep data recording of client progress and setbacks; including but not limited to: symptom presentation, intensity, frequency, and duration
  • Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Ensure unit safety maintenance and follow safety procedures, including physical hold/restraint policy when indicated
  • Demonstrate understanding of trauma-informed care principles and caring for patients across our client ages (4-14 years)
  • Maintain unit supplies and cleanliness, participate in emergency drills and facilitate a therapeutic milieu
  • LeadTechnician-level group activities, accompany patients on outings, and establish therapeutic relationships with patients
  • Utilize collaboration, negotiation, and limit-setting strategies for positive client experiences
  • Use empirically reviewed strategies such as ABA, CBT, PBS, and ARC for client-centered, clinician-mediated interventions
  • Continuously learn and apply new knowledge to skill development
  • Adhere to all Italian Home for Children policies and procedures
  • Address the unique needs of Pediatric Neurodevelopment client populations, and be an advocate for ASD/ID clientele and treat clients with respect, empathy, and dignity.
  • Integrate growth and development considerations, and translate best-practice strategies for disinfection, individualized plans, and procedural integrity into client care
  • Identify and manage special issues, concerns, and risks for clientele and fulfill duties as a mandated reporter
  • Must write Serious Incident Reports and Restraint Reports within 24 hours
  • Has the potential to be mandated for a shift at minimum ratios
