Overview

The Splendora Independent School District Child Nutrition Department is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Quality Control Training Coordinator to join our Child Nutrition Team. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of food safety, quality, and compliance are met across all school cafeterias. This position involves developing and implementing training programs to maintain and improve food service operations, training and developing employees.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Control:
    • Monitor and evaluate food preparation, service, and marketing and storage procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Conduct daily HACCP and Quality inspections and audits of school cafeterias to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to quality standards and compliance.
  • Training and Development:
    • Design, implement, and oversee training programs for cafeteria staff on food safety, sanitation, and operational procedures.
    • Design, implement and manage the induction and on-boarding process of all Child Nutrition Department new-hires.
    • Provide ongoing training and support to ensure staff is knowledgeable about current best practices in child nutrition and food service.
    • Conduct cash register (POS) training.
    • Assist in the design and creation of recipes and recipe training videos.
    • Assist in the design and creation of promotions and marketing activities.
    • Assist in the design, development, management, and scheduling of all Child Nutrition Employee In-Services and Training Classes.
    • Maintain and manage updated employee training records.


  • Compliance:
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of TDA and USDA child nutrition program regulations and guidelines.
    • Ensure all cafeterias comply with USDA and Texas Department of Agriculture standards, including meal pattern requirements and recordkeeping.
    • Conduct cafeteria POS-register and advance change cash audits at each site.
    • Conduct perpetual inventory audits at each site and the Child Nutrition Central Commodity Warehouse.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Develop and maintain detailed records of training activities, quality control inspections, and compliance audits.
    • Prepare reports and documentation required for state and federal audits.
    • Maintenance and management of up-to-date menu planning documentation such as; CN labels, Buy American Statements, Buy American Exemptions, and Product Formulation Statements.
    • Documentation and management of vendor price changes and product updates.
    • Documentation and management of Smart-Snack compliance documentation.
  • Operational Support:
    • Assist Cafeteria Managers and the Child Nutrition Field Operations Supervisor in implementing corrective actions to address any identified deficiencies.
    • Collaborate with the Child Nutrition Director and the Child Nutrition Field Operations Supervisor to develop and update policies and procedures.
    • Assist Managers and Kitchen staff in special operations tasks such as; meal service in the classroom, Grandparents Day, Thanksgiving Feast, and field trip meal preparations.
    • Ensure all local and regulatory authority signage and postings are available and in compliance at all sites.
  • Customer Service:
    • Foster a culture of excellent customer service within the Child Nutrition Department.
    • Address and resolve any concerns or complaints related to food quality and safety in a professional manner.
  • Professional Development:
    • Stay informed about industry trends and advancements in food safety and child nutrition.
    • Participate in relevant professional development opportunities and share knowledge with the team.
    • Participate in all Region, TASN, USDA, TDA, and District Trainings as directed.
    • Maintain an active Texas Association for School Nutrition membership and attend state conferences.
Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in managing school food service quality control, compliance, local and regulatory authority standards and requirements.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification or equivalent food safety certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of TDA and USDA child nutrition program regulations and guidelines.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and control under pressure.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills even when the solution may not be clear.
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Proven track record of excellent attendance at work.
  • Effective, clear, and comprehensible communication and interpersonal skills; both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with food service management software such as PrimeroEdge.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and have an ability to drive a district vehicle.
  • Must pass Child Nutrition Operation’s Pre-Screening Test with a score of 85% or higher.
  • Proven track record and experience in conducting on-site, one-on-one and group trainings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between school sites within the district.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical inspections.
  • Capability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Capability to assist in school food service kitchen operations and Central Commodity Warehouse as needed.
  • Ability to work in extreme heat and cold temperatures.
  • Knowledge and ability to operate commercial kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to operate a Child Nutrition Point-Of-Sale device.
