Jabra Hearing

Lead Backend Engineer

Jabra Hearing New York, NY

Hi, we're Jabra Hearing.

We're on a mission to empower tens of millions of people to hear better through convenient, personalized hearing care — at a fraction of the cost thanks to telemedicine. In three years, we went from a scrappy startup to a leader in the direct-to-consumer hearing care space with the backing of our parent company GN, a global pioneer in intelligent audio solutions, to prove it. We partnered with Jabra (also in the GN Family) to create the Jabra Enhance online hearing business. Leveraging GN's expertise and Jabra's pioneering audio engineering helps us make our hearing care even more accessible and affordable.

About us.

We're a data-thirsty, outcomes-driven group that cares as deeply about our employees as we do our customers. We're led by a diverse crew of enormously talented thinkers, creators, and doers who are as collaborative as they are compassionate (and passionate). The team at Jabra Hearing includes actors, sommeliers, top-chefs, dancers, black belts, filmmakers and countless four-legged furry sidekicks.

About the role.

We are looking for an ambitious Lead Backend Engineer. In partnership with leaders across the Product, Design and Engineering organization, you'll have the chance to define and work on the foundational elements of the company. The ideal candidate is passionate about creating a seamless customer experience and is able to drive and execute end-to-end customer journeys. This position reports to the Director of Software Engineering, Backend.

What you'll do.

  • Work closely with our CTO, as well as cross-functional peers across Product, Design and Engineering to define product features and specifications
  • Own and architect product features autonomously end-to-end using the technology that best serves the business need; currently, we build and own our backend systems and microservices using Node.js, GraphQL, Express.JS, PostgreSQL, React.JS and AWS
  • Champion efficiency through in-depth debugging, profiling and re-design; analyze and improve scalability, stability, security and performance of our core backend systems
  • Plan and schedule feature releases (such as innovations to appointment scheduling and customer routing) to minimize impact to business operations and to maximize value-add
  • Support the learning and growth of your fellow engineers; host code reviews, debugging sessions and delivery support for the Backend development team
  • Act as the voice of engineering in cross-departmental team meetings (aligned to East Coast business hours) on topics such as pioneering exciting initiatives for new business partnerships
  • And last but never the least: leading continuous refactoring and architectural reviews to ensure readiness for upcoming business opportunities

What you'll bring.

  • B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 8 years of experience working as a Back-End or Full-Stack Engineer
  • Proven track record of shipping high-quality software to production environments
  • Experience working with relational and non-relational databases and SQL
  • Proven record of developing backend systems and microservices with Node.js, Express.Js and GraphQL
  • 5 years of building and running at scale AWS cloud solutions
  • Experience with designing, building and debugging APIs and distributed backend systems
  • Passion for leadership and collaboration
  • Experience with TypeScript a plus

A sneak peek at our benefits.

  • You're worth it. Our compensation is competitive ($200,000 - $240,000 plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus) and our 401k plan includes matching up to 4%.
  • Take care of yourself and your loved ones. We offer excellent medical, vision, and dental insurance, plus basic life and disability insurance, and contribute generously to it. Adding a new member to your family? We also provide 12-weeks paid parental leave.
  • Rest and recharge. Whether you check out America's natural treasures or just relax at home, enjoy your paid time off (employees can accrue up to 20 days of vacation time, approx. 8 days of sick & safe time, and are eligible for up to 9 company holidays annually). We encourage time off.
  • Be well! Jabra Hearing offers a monthly wellness stipend to support you in prioritizing self-care - covering anything from gym memberships and fitness equipment to vitamins and spa visits.
