Groundskeeper

The Groundskeeper is responsible for all Zoo grounds landscaping. Duties include, but are not limited to, maintaining and installing all landscaped areas as assigned by the Horticulture Manager.

The ideal candidate will be able to work well within a team to accomplish tasks. He or she will have strong attention to detail and communication skills. The candidate must also be able to take directions and complete tasks in a timely manner. This position is 100% outdoors and the candidate must be able to work in all weather conditions.

Essential Functions

Maintain cleanliness of all guest pathways.

Mow and edge all lawn areas as well as select animal exhibits.

Plant annuals in Spring and Fall.

Mulch beds in Spring and Fall.

Plant new and/or existing beds and/or exhibits.

Trim small trees and shrubs.

Use chainsaws and pole saws to remove or prune small trees.

Use a variety of power equipment, Zero Turn mowers, push mowers, weed eaters, blowers, chain saws, hedge clippers, and any other tools necessary to complete work orders.

Maintains and properly stores tools, equipment, and supplies.

Complies with company safety policies.

Ensures a positive guest experience by communicating with guests in a professional and courteous manner.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, chemicals, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment can be moderately loud when on Zoo grounds. The employee may be required to be near animals.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, crawl, and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week position.

Shifts: Sunday - Thursday OR Tuesday - Saturday

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience working with professional landscape company

Valid Driver’s License

Proof of Current Auto Insurance

Must have a clean driving record

Must be able to pass Drug Screening

Must pass a Background Screening

Must be 21 years or older due to Zoo driver policy

Compensation

$14.50 per hour
