Graphic Design Internship

Title: Graphic Design Internship

Reports to: Internal Communications Manager

Overview:

The People & Culture Team at Jacksonville Zoo & Gardens (JZG) is responsible for driving an inclusive culture, engaging and connecting our employees, and helping them grow. In terms of Internal Communications this means telling great stories about our people and communicating details through internal media channels as well as developing employee engagement campaigns, tools, guidelines, and more. This opportunity is exclusively for undergraduate college students in a Graphics or Art Design program. We are looking for someone with a passion for people and visual story telling who can use their content creation skillset to support communication for all JZG employees.

 As an Internal Communications Intern, some of your responsibilities will be:

  • Creating content for newsletters, internal TV network and intranet, etc.
  • Developing an icon and illustration library
  • Developing templates for intranet and presentations
  • Help develop style guidelines and internal communications standard processes.
  • Finding new and improved ways to reach our audiences and generate engagement.
  • Help shoot and produce video for internal channels.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and Illustration
  • Knowledge of video editing software
  • Passion for developing stories in different media: news articles, videos, and photos.
  • Knowledge in photography and video editing
  • A team member who can give and receive feedback
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Able to engage in conversation and approach people in a professional setting.


Required Education:

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Photography, Arts

Physical requirements:

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to walk, bend, kneel and crawl.
  • Able to lift and carry 50 pounds without difficulty.
  • Ability to traverse zoo grounds on foot and operate a motorized golf cart.

  • Excellent safety practices including safe operation of hand tools, vehicles, and equipment

  • Effective time management including prioritization
  • Sound judgment and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to remain focused despite interruptions and manage stress to perform job effectively

  • Maintains confidentiality where required
  • Able to work individually and in a team
