Engineering Manager

What You’ll Be Doing

The Engineering Manager is a key position within our Corporate Engineering team. The position leads multiple teams in the planning, designing, and overseeing the construction of precast concrete products, fabricated metal products, and packaged engineered systems, primarily for underground utility and infrastructure construction. Duties include product design, plant and equipment layout, and engineering and design of tools, machinery, and systems.

Based at our corporate office in Reno, NV and reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, you’ll primarily work with members of the engineering team, plant operations leadership teams, and other Jensen Precast teams.

The Principal Accountabilities Of This Position Include

  • Oversight of the engineering team and ensures that employees follow established standards. Assigns and manages the design team's project workload.
  • Plan and direct staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and improve the program.
  • Interface with human resources regarding employee performance-related issues and address each situation appropriately.
  • Structural Design
  • Lead the engineering team in the structural design of new products and projects.
  • Ensure products designed by the local team meet all requirements, including loading/moment capacity, durability, corrosion, and safe lifting.
  • Provide or acquire structural seals as the customer or project requires.
  • Make recommendations when project plans or product specifications are inadequate for the customer's intended application.
  • Non-Structural Design
  • Lead the engineering team in delivering production-ready modeling and drafting new products and projects.
  • Ensure that product outputs are achievable with our production tooling and capabilities. Ensure that drawing formats, details, and dimensioning follow established standards to enable the production team's legibility.
  • Drive adherence to Bill of Material structuring and hierarchy standards in CAD/PDM models to deliver proper ERP structure to our plants.
  • Lead the team in following PDM release and change protocols, including appropriate attribution of products.
  • Keep modeling & drafting efficiency high using the latest CAD tools and techniques.
  • Continuously improve and expand capabilities in engineering and advise teams on selecting and deploying appropriate tools and standards.
  • Identify opportunities and implement incremental improvements in work processes, operating efficiency and effectiveness, cost reduction, increased quality, and increased profitability.
  • Ensure the team continuously develops skills and technical expertise to support engineering improvement initiatives.
  • Operate in close partnership with Quality Control, Operations, and Sales to achieve cross
  • functional design objectives.
  • Support these internal customers in solving difficult or complex technical issues and assist in developing design and optimization strategies. Ensures product/process proposals meet customer, production, quality, industry, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the various project stakeholders to ensure we achieve customer-required timeliness.

Who We Are Looking For

You’re enthusiastic and motivated in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated engineering management experience focusing on design and 3D modeling. Other desired qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a professional engineer (PE) is preferred.
  • At least eight (8) years of experience in a manufacturing environment with progressively more responsible supervisory and management experience.
  • Experience with concrete design following ACI and AASHTO.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 3D modeling and drafting using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Steel design according to AISC and /or AASHTO.
  • Exceptional communication skills (written / verbal)
  • Experience leading complex teams of skilled engineers.
  • The ability to collaborate with teams and individuals at all levels of the Company.
  • Solid skills in identifying, diagnosing, and resolving complex engineering issues and opportunities.

Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the location(s) noted above and is the range Jensen Precast reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position. We consider various factors in compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge, skillset, experience, education and training, certifications, and other relevant business and organizational aspects.

Additional Compensation and Benefits: Jensen Precast offers various competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, PTO, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Jensen Precast's annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs. Incentive awards, if any, will depend on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and company performance.

Base Pay Range (Annual)

$105,000—$135,000 USD
