Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Wallis House, the Resident Advisor provides onsite supervision and support to residents, as well as overseeing the safety and security of the facility.

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate all intakes for new residents, including collecting data, inspecting resident belongings, and orienting residents to house expectations and guidelines.
  • Provide Residents with a list of house rules.
  • Liaise with the housekeeper to ensure all rooms are clean, tidy and fully-furnished to accommodate residents needs.
  • Conduct room inspections to ensure Residents are properly maintaining their area, clean and neat manner per house rules.
  • Ensure safety and security within the house at all times.
  • Provide administrative support by answering the phone and greeting visitors and volunteers, ensuring that they have a positive experience.
  • Check in with Residents who are on-site to ensure Resident safety and welfare.
  • Respond to resident complaints in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with conflict resolution in coordination with Resident Case Manager, always aiming to maintain a fair, positive, and supportive culture.
  • Sensitive and responsive to the cultural differences among the agency's client population
  • Actively participate in a quality improvement project

The Resident Advisor will take on special projects or additional duties as assigned.

Competency Requirements

Must be able to work independently without constant supervision.

Basic computer skills including data entry.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Effective problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task.

A collaborative, positive, and mature approach.

Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse preferred.

Education And Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience working with the homeless

Certifications/Licenses

Valid CA drivers license preferred

Additional Requirements

Department of Justice/Fingerprint clearance

Satisfactory completion of health screening

Tuberculosis clearance

Proof of legal eligibility to work in the United States

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of a Resident Advisor, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to, reach, bend, push, pull, kneel, or lift objects weighing more than 30 pounds. The employee may be required to drive.
