Creative Technologist

FG&Co is looking for an experienced Creative Technologist to help our growing team.

As a FG&Co Creative Technologist, you will work within our Technical Department working alongside Creative, Strategy, Production, Project Management and Account teams in pulling off whatever we dream up. You will act as the bridge between concepts and realistic execution within budget, making sure that projects are executed efficiently and flawlessly through their lifespan.

As a Creative Technologist you take on the responsibility of being a leading member of our technical team. As directed by your supervisor, you will be expected to be a leader & innovator regarding new emerging technologies and their implementation. You will be expected to contribute in executing flawless events and activations, while also instructing and teaching other staff on their various components and use cases. The Creative Technologist supports the internal teams in planning and building within a variety of technology platforms. The following job duties are under the close supervision of the Executive Technical Director. 

 

1. Onsite Technology Operations: Oversee and execute various activations all over the United States and sometimes internationally. Execute and maintain artistic and operational integrity of specified show product. 

 

2. Creative Technology Research and Development: Lead and/or oversee the internal development of creative technologies and their applications in future work. Collaborate with any number of internal teams for the ideation and concepting of this R&D work, and present these technologies and concepts to internal teams. 

 

3. Quality Assurance: Work with show operations project timelines and schedules to ensure departmental goals and objectives are obtained. Report to the Director of your department for any evaluation of performance of the internal and external teams. 

 

4. Event Safety: Collaborate with department executive leadership in the execution and supervision of show operations processes to achieve company and department safety targets. Execute and maintain show operations cast crew on the job safety program in coordination with Safety Committee and OSHA standards. 

 

5. Activation and Technology Operations: Continue to gain knowledge of how all previous duties shift and adjust to the constant change in our industry. Work in cooperation with internal teams to ensure their needs are met. Through continued work with TD’s and the Director of the technical department, develop new concepts and ideas for creative technology solutions. 

6. Technology Comprehension: Possess a strong understanding of the operation of multiple audio-visual technologies, software, and programming necessary for creative technology development and execution. 

 

7. Vectorworks: Must have the ability to possess strong Vectorworks skills as well as an understanding of national fire regulations and codes. 3-D design and Vectorworks will eventually be a part of your everyday workload. 

 

8. Vendor Cycle: Work with all outside show operations contractors, including but not limited to; freelance AV technicians, equipment rental vendors, “stagehand” labor resources, etc. 

 

9. Budget and Financial Process: Have knowledge or utilize internal training to be able to gain a strong aptitude for understanding event costs as they relate to event operations, including operating and labor budgets. 

 

10. Qualifications for Position: strong communication skills, positive attitude, team player, strong negotiation abilities, collaboration skills, and problem solving skills. 

 

11. Other Duties as Assigned: Other duties could include working in other areas of the company to provide support during absences or shortage of staff in other departments. 

 

12. Communication: Constant communication with supervisors, peers, subordinates, vendors and occasionally clients. 

 

13. Personal Development Training: Training opportunities will be provided from time-to-time to accelerate your professional development. We will also support extra-curricular education in areas of interest pertinent to our industry. These could include Vectorworks, Software Programming, position related conferences, hardware training, and the like. 

 

Valid driver’s license and maintaining a driving record acceptable to FG&Co’s insurance carrier for inclusion on our auto liability policy. 

Frequent business travel and significant on-site event duties. 

This is a hybrid position based in Portland, OR and requires some in office presence.

Salary range for this position DOE. You will receive up to three weeks paid vacation, thirteen paid holiday days; paid sick time; 100% employer-paid health, dental, vision, disability and term-life policy premiums for employee; insurance benefits available for dependents which is paid by employee through pre-tax 125 cafeteria plan; FSA or HSA plans available for employee-paid co-pays/deductibles or dependent care expenses; 401k plan; gated employee parking; cell phone & transportation stipend; company-paid outings. 

 

Position requires sitting or standing for long periods of time, lifting up to 30 pounds, extensive use of a computer, driving an automobile and personal automobile available for business use (mileage is reimbursed), occasional national travel with out-of-town stays as long as seven days (sometimes longer), non-compete agreement and non-disclosure agreement.
