Job Description

As a Mechanical Engineer - Validation Support, you will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing our technical documentation systems. You will collaborate closely with the BU Global Tech Doc community and various pillars within the plant to ensure seamless integration of technical documentation processes. Your responsibilities will include executing health checks, providing training, managing documentation systems, and ensuring that all technical documentation is accurate and accessible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tech Doc Integration & Health Checks:

Participate in regular meetings with the BU Global Tech Doc community.

Interface with other pillars within the plant to promote the integration of technical documentation with other activities.

Execute health checks to assess the Tech Doc system's health.

  • Training & Support:

Train employees on how to access the Tech Doc system.

Maintain and manage drawing software licenses for the site.

Provide site graphic/plotting support and be capable of operating the drawing plotter/laminator.

  • Documentation Management:

Manage, create, and update DSOPs (Documented Standard Operating Procedures) for documenting Tech Doc system processes.

Ensure the technical documentation capability and tools are adequate for the site.

Interface with site project managers to ensure that technical documentation is submitted and stored appropriately by the end of each project.

Technical Documentation Administration

  • Act as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for on-site drawing updates.
  • Maintain the site’s technical documentation SharePoint repository.
  • Administer the check-in and check-out process for drawings, process safety studies, and project documents.

Software/Program Monitoring

  • Monitor, facilitate, and maintain Tech Doc-related software/programs.
  • Manage equipment number data and assign numbers for site equipment.
  • Vendor & Site Communication:
  • Communicate with internal and external engineering vendors regarding drawing check-ins, check-outs, and the site drawing control process.
  • Obtain necessary vendor training to maintain drawing skills proficiency.
  • Spider System Management:
  • Maintain the Spider account setup and AWC consumer training for site resources.
  • Address PDF drawing corrections and manage Spider tickets with the service now team.
  • Perform monthly Spider health checks and weekly user connects for updates.
  • Update Spider consumer and author training documents with new features and releases.

3D Model & Document Conversion

  • Upload 3D model pilots on ProjectWise, with plans to upload intelligent versions in the future.
  • Convert master drawings from DGN to DWG versions.

Project Support

  • Provide engineering support for layout updates and small drafting updates for projects.
  • Upload site project documents and machine/equipment manuals.
  • Support vendor drawing uploads and ensure all necessary documentation is digitized and accessible.

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in technical documentation and support within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in drawing and document management software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
  • Experience with Tech Doc systems like Spider, SharePoint, and ProjectWise.
  • Knowledge of process safety studies and documentation.

Technical Proficiency

  • Strong understanding of technical documentation processes and standards.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and other related software.
  • Ability to manage and maintain technical documentation systems.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Excellent communication skills to interface with project managers, engineers, and vendors.
  • Ability to provide training and support to site employees.

Analytical & Problem-Solving

  • Strong analytical skills to perform system health checks and address technical issues.
  • Problem-solving abilities to manage technical documentation and system integration challenges.

Organizational Skills

  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple documentation processes and ensure accuracy and accessibility.
