Overview:

The Underwriting Associate conducts due diligence on new and existing clients to comply with Anti-Money Laundering and Know Your Customer requirements. They inspect documents for completeness, conduct independent research using third-party services and deliver a comprehensive package to the Underwriter for review. The Undrewriting Associate communicates directly with clients during their onboarding and again for re-underwriting or change management events. One Inc business is growing in size and complexity, and so too are the requirements for underwriting to mitigate risk.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a candidate who appreciates digging into the details and collaborating with a tight team. As an entry-level position this is a good start for those interested in compliance, AML and production reporting.

The Underwriting Associate will work daily to directly support the Underwriters, and will work closely with the Payment Operations Onboarding and Fraud teams. This role contributes to business success by quickly getting a new client up and running to accept payments. For existing clients this role owns initiating re-underwriting and client outreach. The Underwriting team acts as a portfolio regulator for our business payment processing and merchant credit risk, and reports to the Senior Director of Risk Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage queue of underwriting cases against department priorities and timeframes
  • Examine documents for completion and consistency
  • Source credit and consumer reports from third-party services
  • Organize files and notes to maintain quality records
  • Escalate inconsistencies or red flags
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in writing
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with customers, banking partners, and vendors
  • Create reports in Excel for audit and department performance metrics
  • Drive operational improvements and support emerging requirements
  • Assist with projects to ensure clients are adhering to applicable rules, regulations and best practices
  • Other duties assigned as necessary


Skills:

An ideal Underwriting Associate is analytical and communicative. A candidate will be most successful when they prioritize deadlines, operate independently against a checklist, and escalate red flag exceptions. Underwriting is accountable to internal and external partners, so the ability to deliver audit-level quality is essential.
