The Senior Director, Global Trade Operations is accountable for providing strategic direction and operational oversight of Johnson & Johnson's Global Trade Operations. They are responsible for developing and implementing the long-term strategic roadmap to manage the existing business, grow functional capabilities, improve compliance controls, and design and run the optimal organization to support global trade operations for Johnson & Johnson.

The role will lead and manage a Global Operations team that engages in daily interactions with regulatory authorities, customs brokers, freight forwarders, port authorities, suppliers, vendors, carriers, and other external entities across the globe to ensure the flow of goods.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on thought leader responsible for devising strategies and programs to maximize output and minimize costs to meet company objectives. They will leverage their extensive expertise and knowledge of all relevant import/export regulations, business practices, and processes to facilitate a successful global trade compliance program.

This position will be part of Johnson & Johnson's Enterprise Technical Operations & Risk Management pillar, reporting into the Global Transportation & Trade Operations leader and partnering with the Global Trade Controls pillar.

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for maintaining a best-in-class Global Trade Operations function, reshaping the operating model as required to increase capabilities and performance while ensuring stable operations of a global team of trade operations professionals and working across a matrix of trade operations partners located in all Regional and Sector teams.
  • The role will guide enterprise-wide trade operational requirements and partner with Global Trade Compliance (GTC), Segment Trade Compliance, Health Care Compliance (HCC), and the Global Legal Organization (GLO) to create processes, trainings, governance, and regional agility and flexibility with the required global governance.
  • Partner with the Trade Controls Process & Technology team to operationalize capabilities and projects that improve existing processes to support trade compliance activities and/or business objectives.
  • Strategic Supplier Management of Brokers, freight forwarders, filers, etc. involved in cross border trade operations, including management of performance and adherence to regulations.
  • Import and export licensing, including export due diligence practices. Cross Border Trade data, including licensing and due diligence, to ensure compliant Import and Export filings with cross border movements.
  • Additional Operational processes and controls as required in the evolving global trade operations landscape. Provide trade operations expertise to ensure compliant alignment with the changing global trade landscape, including recommendations for improvements.
  • Support customs and trade compliance education, training, and roll-out of global standards.
  • Support the deployment of cross border global trade automation through various ERPs.
  • Support optimization efforts across the globe that minimize costs and reduce risk.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelors Degree is required.
  • Masters/Doctoral degree in business, supply chain, operations, trade compliance, quality, or related is preferred.

Experience And Skills:

Required:

  • 14 years of experience in a related field is required.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders in order to bring about change and drive continuous improvement across multiple geographies and functions, while delivering meaningful results is required.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across the organization and operate effectively within a matrix while influencing others is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a function across a matrixed environment and develop strategies to improve results is required.
  • Strong, proven and visible people leadership skills with experience leading teams; ability to coach, motivate and empower others and to develop talent is required.
  • Strong critical thinking and project management skills, ability to exercise independent judgment and manage complexity and ambiguity is required.

Preferred:

  • 6 years related experience in leading a global trade compliance organization managing people is preferred.
  • Understanding of global trade issues, including classifications, origin, valuation, and various special trade programs is highly preferred
  • Knowledgeable in import and export regulations, specifically in relation to numerous relevant regulatory bodies, including other government agencies as they apply is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing a comprehensive cross-border global trade operations program at a large, multi-national corporation is preferred.
  • Experience with Global teams and working with government agencies highly is preferred.
  • Leading global trade compliance and trade operations in the life sciences industry is preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to effectively work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute operational plans to drive continuous improvement
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address trade compliance issues
  • Familiarity with trade automation systems and ERP platforms
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of trade compliance best practices and industry standards. Relevant certifications in trade compliance (e.g., Certified Global Trade Compliance Professional) are a plus.

Other:

  • 10-20% travel is required.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $163,000 to $282,900. The anticipated base pay range for the California Bay Area is $189,000 to $325,335.

The compensation and benefits information set forth in this posting applies to candidates hired in the United States. Candidates hired outside the United States will be eligible for compensation and benefits in accordance with their local market.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.

  • Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.
  • Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).
  • This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.
  • Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:
    • Vacation – up to 120 hours per calendar year
    • Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington – up to 56 hours per calendar year
    • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays – up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
