Job description: Summary of Position

The Senior Calibration Technician is responsible for completing the pre-commissioning, calibration, and troubleshooting of multiple process instruments within his/her area. The successful candidate should be a problem solver experienced in the measurement and control of system pressures, weight, temperatures, conductivity, pH, levels, flow, and density. Candidates should be knowledgeable of electrical theory and its practical applications, and should be able to inspect, calibrate, measure, and test equipment at prescribed intervals using established procedures with equipment traceable to a nationally recognized standard or document equivalent. The successful candidate should be able to use multi-meters, frequency calibrators, standardized weights, pressure calibrators, flow meters, digital pressure indicators, RTD calibrators, digital manometers, and digital tachometers to conduct single point and loop calibrations on process instrumentation.

 

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00am - 2:30pm. Ability to work overtime as necessary.

Essential Functions
  • Diagnose plant equipment problems.
  • Help identify immediate solutions to critical issues.
  • Elevate critical issue concerns to include a viable path forward.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to achieve on time calibrations, including but not limited to QC samples/standard generation.
  • Implement equipment modifications and/or replacements as needed abiding to compliance requirements.
  • Conduct routine repairs to instrumentation and electrical components in accordance with all plant work instructions and safety procedures.
  • Conduct safety observations as needed.
  • Maintain equipment in areas of responsibility as needed, abiding to compliance requirements of respective areas.
  • Complete Change control responsibilities on time and as needed.
  • Responsible for coordinating and tracking off-site equipment and standards; communicating impact in the event of As-Found Out of Tolerance As-Found.
  • Coordinate with Outside vendors to perform calibration activities, adhering to site regulations.
  • Responsible for Instrument additions, verifying instrumentation accuracy and assigning related calibration points.
  • Responsible for developing new SCM and providing technical expertise during periodic reviews of such documents.
  • Act the function of demonstrator and qualifier for ICG related OJTs.
  • Provide SME level support to the department.
  • Conduct inspections, measurements, and calibrations of process and critical utility instrumentation using calibrated test equipment.
  • Conduct routine installations and troubleshooting of control instrumentation.
  • Complete pre-task analyses for his/her maintenance activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by departmental leadership.
  • Must maintain operational compliance with US and international regulatory agencies and guidelines (i.e. FDA, EU, HC, TGA, PIC/S, ISO, USP, NRC, cGMP, etc.).
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. Associate degree or equivalent certification program from a technical school with an emphasis on instrumentation controls preferred.
  • Three or more years of relevant work experience in manufacturing required (regulated environment, attention to detail, and following detailed instructions) as a maintenance technician.
  • Experience with FDA regulations and CGMP guidelines is preferred.
  • Experience with process control instrumentation calibration, troubleshooting, and repair is essential.
  • Working knowledge of Lock-Out/Tag-Out methods and related OSHA safety practices is essential.
  • Knowledge of multi-meters, frequency calibrators, and flow meters is required.
  • Knowledge of loop calibrations is a plus.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Willingness to work in plant producing radioactive materials and requiring all employees to participate in safety programs designed to minimize potential and/or actual exposure levels.
  • Responsibilities include the ability to lift up to 70 pounds, kneeling, crouching, twisting the upper body, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, must be able to physically negotiate stairs and evacuation ladders with or without accommodation, wear and operate safety equipment, enter vessels, and inspect equipment.
  • Material handling devices (e.g., hand truck, fork truck, and conveyors) are used when possible, however, use of proper lifting and movement techniques is necessary to prevent injury.
  • Must be willing to wear a variety of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hearing protection as needed.
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of 8 hours a day while performing duties.
  • Must possess good hand-eye coordination; close attention to detail is required.
  • Must be able to work indoors and outdoors with exposure to mechanical/moving parts, hazards including corrosive, flammable and toxic material, dust, dirt, odors, and irritants.
  • Willingness to complete safety training within allotted timeframes, and work in a team-based environment.
  • Must be able to work outside of regular work hours, including off shift, weekend, and holiday work as business needs require.
